Iarnród Éireann announced this week that construction has started on the temporary station at Adare, Co Limerick.
Consisting of a platform and external concourse, the temporary station is set to support thousands of spectators travelling to and from the Ryder Cup in September 2027.
Construction, which is expected to take six months, is being progressed alongside works on the reinstatement of the Limerick to Foynes Freight Line, which is expected to be complete in October 2026.
The station works are funded by the Department of Transport, through the National Transport Authority (NTA), and are being delivered by Cara Plant Hire Limited.
Iarnród Éireann said it is working closely with the NTA to support the overall NTA public transport plan for the Ryder Cup.
According to Iarnród Éireann, it is likely that the Ryder Cup special rail services will operate outside of regular timetable hours and will utilize an existing train fleet, running a shuttle service between Limerick Junction and Adare on the reinstated Foynes rail line. The shuttle will meet trains from Dublin and Cork at Limerick Junction, where passengers can interchange.
Meanwhile, Ryder Cup organizers said "the most direct rail access" will be the dedicated shuttle train service operating between Limerick Junction and the temporary Adare Manor train station.
"Limerick Junction is a major rail hub with frequent, direct connections to/from both Dublin and Cork, making it an ideal interchange," organizers said.
"Once you arrive at the Adare Manor train station, it is a short, convenient walk directly to the gates of the Ryder Cup 2027."

The 100th anniversary of the Ryder Cup will take place at Co Limerick's Adare Manor from September 13-19 next year and is expected to be one of the largest sporting events ever held in Ireland. It will be the second time the Ryder Cup has been held in Ireland, following The K Club in 2006.
Daily match day tickets were available via an exclusive priority window for residents of the island of Ireland, but they sold out in under an hour last month. More than 150,000 people from across the island of Ireland had pre-registered for the early access.
Irish and international fans will have an opportunity to purchase general admission daily tickets in the full public ballot, which opens to fans from around the world on Wednesday, June 3.
However, residents in Adare have been offered complimentary tickets. According to RTÉ News, Ryder Cup Europe said in a letter to locals: "...We would like to offer you two complimentary tickets for the 2027 Ryder Cup, which can be redeemed for any of the days, Tuesday to Sunday."
The letter said: "We have ringfenced a certain number of tickets per day for residents, which will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis."
The letter also acknowledged that the construction phase and event delivery will have an impact on daily life in the village, which it says organizers will work to minimize.
Previously, in February, Ireland's Department of Culture, Communications, and Sport announced funding of up to €5.7 million to help ensure that the 2027 Ryder Cup produces a lasting legacy in Adare, in the wider Limerick region, and in Ireland as a whole.
Key projects earmarked for the funding include the refurbishment and extension of Adare Village Hall, the refurbishment of Adare Heritage Centre, the enhancement of the Adare Public Realm, and a tree planting sustainability initiative.
