If you want to start easing back into the clubs this year, might I suggest taking in the Ashley Davis show on January 17? She returns to Joe's Pub in New York after her sold-out performance this time last year.
"Real mysticism. Real romance. Real enchantment. Ashley Davis bends ancient melodies into something that is decidedly modern in its interpretation." That's what I wrote about her performance at the time.
In the mode of Celtic singers Loreena McKennitt and Moya Brennan, she is the perfect antidote to the stressful holiday season that just passed us.
Davis has a number of academic and showbiz credentials under her belt. She earned a master's in traditional Irish singing at the University of Limerick, and was also artist in residence on the Isle of Man, helping to preserve the vanishing Manx language. She also spent a year as soloist for Michael Flatley's Lord of the Dance.
This is an enchanting performer whose live show cannot be missed. For more information, log onto daisyrings.com.
