The majority of Irish are now choosing to socialize over coffee instead of pints.

New research has found that more than 3 in 5 would rather a catch up over a milky coffee than a creamy pint. That's according to Caffe Nero in partnership with Irish snack brand Forest Feast, who wonder: Is Ireland moving closer to coffee culture like our European cousins?

It appears the answer is yet as the study reveals that over half of Irish consumers (62%) now prefer meeting friends over coffee rather than in the pub.

For generations, meeting for a pint has been a cornerstone of Irish social life. But new research from Premium European Coffee House Caffè Nero suggests that habit is quietly shifting, with more people choosing relaxed coffee catch-ups as their go-to way to connect.

Over half of Irish consumers (62%) now say they would rather meet friends over coffee than in the pub, pointing to a growing preference for daytime meet-ups that fit around modern routines.

Whether it’s a long-overdue catch-up, a midday break, or a modern twist on Ireland’s favourite social invitation, each Caffè Nero is designed to be a true community hub. A warm, welcoming space that brings people together, sits at the heart of the local neighbourhood, and makes time spent together feel unhurried and meaningful.

The rise in coffee catch-ups comes as Irish consumers increasingly seek out premium, specialty coffee experiences. Family-owned Caffè Nero is known for its handcrafted drinks made using high-quality beans sourced directly from growers and roasted in its own roastery, with quality and flavour at the heart of every cup.

With millions of coffees enjoyed each year across its Irish and UK stores, the brand has become a popular choice for those swapping the pub for a relaxed coffee meet-up.
