Cultural TV cook show Fusion Kitchen highlights local, seasonal produce as supply chain fragility is exposed.

A new six-part television series, Fusion Kitchen will air this April, bringing together global food traditions and Irish ingredients in a timely exploration of culture, sustainability and community.

Broadcast on DCTV (Virgin Media Channel 802) and streamed on dctv.ie/live, the series begins on 13 April at 8pm, running for six consecutive evenings, with a daytime repeat from 20 April at 2pm.

At its heart, Fusion Kitchen brings together people from diverse cultural backgrounds now living in Ireland, and uses food as a shared language to explore identity, belonging and connection. In each episode, one participant prepares a meal from their home country for the others to enjoy, while working, where possible, with locally sourced Irish ingredients.

The series is presented by television chef Tara Walker, whose work has long championed seasonal cooking and accessible recipes.

"It was a pleasure to host such a brilliant group of people throughout the series,” she said. “As a chef, it was incredibly interesting to learn about the different cuisines and cultures we featured - there is always something new to learn! I also felt very lucky to enjoy a delicious feast at the end of every episode."

Set against a backdrop of increasing awareness around climate impact and the fragility of global supply chains, the series places a strong emphasis on the quality, diversity and sustainability of Irish produce. By reimagining traditional dishes through locally available ingredients, Fusion Kitchen highlights how Ireland’s food landscape can support both cultural expression and more sustainable ways of eating.

The programme also reflects the evolving nature of Irish society, where communities from different parts of the world are contributing to and reshaping the country’s food culture. Through shared meals and personal stories, the series offers a grounded and human perspective on integration, moving beyond policy into everyday lived experience.

Produced by filmmaker Declan Cassidy in collaboration with community participants and supported by Coimisiún na Meán, Louth Local Development’s SICAP team, and non-profit community media organisation EurAV European Audio Visual, Fusion Kitchen brings together public service values with a contemporary focus on food, culture and sustainability.

“I feel that Fusion Kitchen takes integration away from being some sort of abstract idea and brings it to life around a table,” said series creator Declan Cassidy. “At a time when we’re all more conscious of where our food comes from, the series highlights how Ireland’s producers make it possible to cook globally while sourcing locally. It’s a reminder of both the fabulous richness of the cultures that now make up the Irish social family, and the quality of what we produce here.”

Fusion Kitchen is a contemporary take on food television in that it’s as much about people and place as it is about cooking. The series reflects a growing interest in the importance of food, culture and sustainability in modern Ireland.
