From the Irish American favorite “Danny Boy” to an Irish language version of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” – the music videos that IrishCentral’s community fell in love with this year.

The Irish are known around the world for their sparkling personalities and gift of the gab but also for their amazing musical talents. Irish music is loved around the world and here are just a few video IrishCentral posted during 2018 that were hugely popular among our one million social media users.

Irish girl performs "Hallelujah"

This is truly an amazing performance, especially for an 11-year-old. Early this year Kaylee Rodgers, from Donaghadee, County Down, appeared on NBC’s “Big Little Shots” where she performed her own version of Leonard Cohen’s "Hallelujah”. She stunned the crowd with her beautiful performance.

At this point, TG Lurgan's extraordinary Irish covers of favorite songs need no introduction.

Starring none other than the students who immerse themselves in Irish language learning at Colaiste Lurgan, Ireland’s coolest Irish language school, which hosts talented teens every summer in the Inverin Gaeltacht of Co. Galway, they've shaken up the perception of language learning in a very positive and fun way.

Cows line up for Irish music

We know Irish music was therapeutic, but this is just amazing. Earlier this year a young girl called Grace Lehane set to playing an Irish folk song “Britches Full of Stitches” on her squeeze box. Amazingly the cows, located down in Kilmichael, in Cork, were mystified and came over to line up for the performance.

“In The Arms Of The Angel” - Simon Casey

This beautiful song, originally know as “Angel” by the Canadian singer Sarah McLachlan, is expertly performed by Simon Casey. The performer, Casey, is a pop, country and gospel singer who hails from Ballycumber, County Offaly.

“Where the Blarney Roses Grow” - The Willoughby Brothers

We just loved everything about this – the song, the video AND the face that the six performers in the group, The Willoughby Brothers, are real life brothers! Richie, Des, Sammy, Robbie, Johnny and Jerome, hail from Coolboy, County Wicklow, and the six brothers are doing a cracking job… don’t you think!

“Danny Boy” - The O'Neill Sisters

Another siblings act, we knew we wouldn’t get away with compiling a most popular songs of any year on IrishCentral without including “Danny Boy”. The song set to an ancient Irish melody remains hugely popular, especially among Irish Americans. In fact, “Danny Boy” was played at Senator John McCain and president George Bush’s funerals this year.

As for the O’Neill Sisters, the trio from County Kerry do a great job on this constant favorite of the Irish at home and abroad.
