Father Joe serenades his wedding congregation with a rendition of Oasis' "Wonderwall".TikTok

Longford’s Father Joe McGrath, known for his singing talent, surprised a bride, groom, and their guests by launching into the iconic Oasis chorus mid-ceremony.

The moment, captured on video by guest Rachel Griffin, begins with Father Joe singing, "I'm sure you've heard it all before, but you never really had a doubt…"

The startled newlyweds and groomsmen quickly joined in, and the congregation chimed in to complete the chorus. Father Joe then beamed at the couple, adding, "You weren't expecting that, were you?"

The 49-second clip has gone viral, drawing praise from fans far and wide, including Noel Gallagher’s daughter Anais, who commented she was "obsessed" with the video.

Social media users were equally impressed, with one declaring, "Father Joe a legend," and another noting, "That’s the Ireland we know and love, fair play."

Singer Rachel Griffin captioned the video "Only in Ireland," and it has already racked up more than 142,000 views and nearly 9,000 likes in one day. The video isn’t the first to highlight Father Joe’s musical flair- another social media clip showed him performing Love Is In The Air at another wedding, to the delight of guests.

"Fr Joe is exactly what the church needs at this present time," one viewer wrote. "He is charismatic and has a great connection with young people, the very same way that Jesus had."

Not everyone agreed, however, with one user comparing him to fellow singing priest Ray Kelly and remarking, "This has no place in a Church ceremony."

Father Joe’s musical interlude was particularly timely, coming ahead of the Gallagher brothers’ first Dublin concert since 2008. More than 82,000 fans attended the reunion gig on Saturday, August 16, with another performance planned for Sunday.

While tens of thousands flocked to Croke Park to hear classics like "Don’t Look Back in Anger" and "Champagne Supernova", the priest’s wedding serenade offered fans at home a taste of the Oasis magic in a uniquely personal setting.

For the newlyweds, it was a memory they, and everyone at the wedding, are unlikely to forget. As Father Joe proved, sometimes the best soundtrack to a wedding isn’t just love, but a little bit of "Wonderwall"!
