The Irish National Stud and Gardens in County Kildare has been named one the top 10 most underrated tourist attractions in the world.
A new study has revealed the most underrated - and overrated - tourist attractions across the globe.
The research by flight booking site Wingie analyzed TripAdvisor reviews for the top 50 tourist experiences in every country. The ranking was based on the number of tracked keywords and phrases indicating whether an experience was perceived as underrated relative to the total number of reviews. An overall percentage score was then calculated to determine the ranking.
"By studying traveler sentiment, we can reveal which experiences visitors raved most about. The key to creating a good experience is ensuring that it exceeds expectations. Visitors should understand the value and uniqueness of each experience, so they leave feeling their money was well spent," said Nihan Çolak Erol, COO of WEG.
“Tourists use sites like TripAdvisor to find out which attractions are worth it. Visitors want to feel their ticket was good value for money, especially during the cost-of-living crisis when holidays become less affordable."
The Irish National Stud and Gardens in Tully, Kildare ranked second among the most underrated places in the world. Guided tours are available at the stud, a breeding facility for Thoroughbreds, and a museum on site explores the history and heritage of the Irish racehorse. The gardens include the Japanese Gardens, considered the finest Japanese garden in Europe, and St. Fiachra's Garden, a tribute to the patron saint of gardeners.
The attraction received 2,713 compliments from pleasantly surprised visitors compared to 1,857 reviews, an average of one and a half per visitor. Almost two-fifths (39%) of visitors called the area 'beautiful,' frequently describing their experience as 'interesting' (358), 'excellent' (217), 'friendly' (209), and 'amazing' (205).
