  5. Snakes Alive!
    March 10, 09

IN biblical terms, the snake is a metaphor for the slithery temptations of Lucifer himself, but fans of Irish music along the Jersey Shore equate the snakes for barn burning Irish rock! If you ever wondered how one would/should/could build a bridge between the Pogues' "Dirty Old Town" and Neil Diamond's "Cracklin' Rosie," you will need to see the Snakes to believe that it can be done. Their set list is a dizzying ride through folk, rock, and traditional Irish classics, all delivered with all the sudsy glory you'd expect from a great bar band.

  6. Everlast on the March
    March 10, 09

THIS seems to be the summer of the mash up single from aging hip-hopping rockers. Kid Rock scored the biggest hit of his career with "All Summer Long," a mixture of Warren Zevon's "Werewolves of London" and "Sweet Home Alabama." Each band member has a musical side project in the works that take the musicians into areas of hip hop, folk and rock, and Dunnells and Tinney are no exception.

    March 09, 09

IRELAND, despite all its imperfections, is still "a bloody great place." That's the verdict of the Lonely Planet guide's latest 764-page edition on Ireland.Yet, there's at least one hue missing from the 40 Shades of Green that Johnny Cash made world-famous with a song he penned in 1961.

  9. Catch Them in The Rye!
    March 09, 09

In the spirit of honesty in journalism, let me come clean. The Rye are my peeps!

They hail from Athenry, Co. Galway, birthplace of my father's tribe.

  10. Depressed and Quite Happy!
    March 09, 09

Pete Depressed is anything but. The lead singer of the Gobshites is a jolly looking, frantic soul in search of a good time, and the good times always seem to follow this Boston band. Fans of their acoustic punk mix are rabid.
