Steve Jobs was a great American genius

Back in 1984 in San Francisco I bought my first Macintosh.

It changed my life.

I am typing this on a Mac and have never used anything else.

To do so would be traitorous.

The Mac got me day one.

With IBM computers at the time you had to type in codes.

With Mac you just typed.

As a computer cretin I could not have been happier.

When I moved to New York my Mac came with me in my car.

When I flew to Ireland to finish my first book the Mac came with me, long before the age of laptops.

It was my old and dear friend.

All these years and five company start-ups later I still love my Mac.

Which is why I am so sad that Steve Jobs died.

He was a genius, a wonderful American genius,

He embodied everything that was great about this country.

He was innovative, futuristic, talented and above all a visionary.

He changed the world for the better and we have lost a great one,

He will rank up there with Edison and company when the history books are written.

And he will be so sorely missed.

Thank you Steve for helping this luddite enter the modern world and I will be grateful always.

Farewell Steve.

My family had some personal contact with Mr. Jobs. In March 2010 my daughter had her ipod touch stolen in school. I e mailed Mr.Jobs telling him of it and asking if there was any way to track or find it. The very next an assistant of his called me to tell me they were sending out a brand new one to my daughter. Financially I'm sure it didn't bren'tidak the bank, but he didn't HAVE to do it.He did because he had compassion for our daughter. We couldn't really afford the $299.plus tax to replace it at the time. Our daughter has Down syndrome and did not understand that someone might steal her i pod, as it wouldn't occur to her to steal anything. It really gave us a boost to realize Mr Jobs was involved on a personal level. I also bet that he did these kind of things quietly, and often. The world lost a very special man.
With all due respect LoyalCitizen it is the bankers and the IMF, who are stealing from social welfare recipients, aided and abetted by some of Ireland's politicians and some of its journalists.
No other person, since Henry Ford, has had such an impact on people's everyday lives. And here I am writing this on my iPad as I sit in my car on the side of the road. A man who improved life for millions and created countless jobs. We need many more of his ilk.
@vincentruane: Maybe you should read the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and then explain why retarded Irish Politicians have been stealing from Social Welfare Recipients to finance his pretentious corporation.
Steve Jobs speech, was brilliant. His life also highlights the folly of killing innocent human life, because it highlights, that you never know what a human being can achieve, regardless of the disadvantages he or she may be born into. His life also highlights the value of hard work and persistence. His quote-"Nobody wants to die, not even people who are going to Heaven," should make all the people who are living on earth, who are going to hell think a bit more carefully about how they are living. May Steve Jobs RIP, he was a good friend of Ireland.
Steve Jobs was a leech in persuading retarded Irish Politicians to finance his pretentious corporation and exclude the Irish from getting anywhere near the European Funds.
This is too sad...
A very nice, poignant tribute from Niall in verse form for a great American original and innovative inventor, Steve Jobs who revolutionized the world of desk-top publishing, graphic design, computer aesthetics and so much more by his terrific invention, the mac.
