The queen has been barred from a Dublin pub.

John Stokes, the father of Celtic soccer star Anthony Stokes, has hung a huge banner outside his pub saying her Majesty is barred from his bar which is called the Players Lounge.

The banner says the queen and the royal family are banned from the bar and saying she "will never be welcome" in the country.

He told the Sun newspaper "I'm just warning her that she won't get served if she decides to drop in for a drink, to save me the embarrassment of having to tell her if she turns up, because it's a well-known pub and she might.

"I don't believe she has any right coming here whatsoever.

"When you hear the figures being thrown around about how much it will cost to bring her over, it's a disgrace. Surely money can be better used elsewhere?

"My mother died of a brain hemorrhage when she was just 51 and they told us she could have been saved if she'd had a hospital bed. Why are we spending that money on this visit when we could invest in hospital beds?"

He admitted "I've had a few complaints already.

"One guy told me that his father had fought in World War One and that I was a disgrace, but it's my opinion. She has no right to come here."

Some locals disagree. Irish Labour politician Ciaran Lynch said: "People should be positive about the visit. If you look at the last number of years, we've had Tony Blair visit, the Irish people voted overwhelmingly for the Good Friday Agreement, and times have moved on.

"In terms of international exposure it will be a fantastic way of promoting Ireland as a welcoming country. We should all be very welcoming of the visit."

i've got a sign above my door that states no gypo's or travellers are to knock on my door asking to put down a new drive.....but they must be thick because they still do...and while we're at it can you ask the irish travellers to get their caravans off the infant schools playground,and control your dogs as they're scaring the nippers.....

oh and by the way when can we expect our £4 billion pound LOAN back.i noticed some more irish travelling scum parked up on public land again....time to vote in the nazi's in.....oh and a final point keep your unemployed students in direland,tey aint pinching jobs over here any more.

Stokes - Nothing more than a narrow minded bigot, but so am I and most of the rebel scum on here so there you go. Good to see Her Majesty will be gracing Dublins and the dirty Republics shores, rather her than me. Rumour has it that the now unoccupied 6 counties will be handed back and the Queen is coming to start discussions. Put the real IRA in government, it's what you scum want??

I hate this situation with the queen's visit,..she should stay her side of the Irish sea,..but wouldn't it be hilarious if Dermot Morgan were around with Ardal O'Hanlon to do the Father Ted thing and protest,..."Down with this sort of thing!...Careful now!"

It is about time. Eamon De Valera tried to make the point a long time ago. The Irish need to assert themselves and catering to the former oppressor is not the right message to send. Because of history, it looks like we are bending over. We need to send a different message. God Bless John Stokes for standing up and telling the Huns that Ireland shall never forget her martyred sons and daughters!

hancock: Lol....what's undemocratic about it? Some counties choose elected heads of state whilst others opt for maintenance of a constitutional monarch. The United Kingdom is in the latter category. The Queen exercises no real power and, in the case of the UK, is symbolic of the coutry's identity and unity. Comments such as "a relic of fairy tale era" betray the same immature lack of respect for another country's traditions as Mr Stokes did with the banner he was ordered to remove. As I've suggested before, there's more to this pathological hate of all things British which is a running theme within most of your contributions to this site. What is it?

It seems anti-democratic and a relic of fairy tale era to me. The House of Lords also strikes me as weird. I have been to the UK, I wasn't aware the queen was the most well respected head of state in the world. I guess no vote counted on that either?
