Phoebe Prince was bullied in Ireland too

A close friends of Phoebe Prince from Ireland recently visited her family in South Hadley.

It was an emotional meeting I'm sure for Phoebe's friend and her father with Phoebe's mother and siblings.

The visit came as new information has begun circulating about Phoebe's life back in Ireland where reports say she was bullied in one of her schools and actually switched to another because of it.

Her mother was a teacher at the second school Phoebe went to which likely stopped the bullying.

It should surely have sent a major message to all concerned in South Hadley High when Phoebe enrolled that she was susceptible to being bullied.

An aunt of Phoebe has made it clear that school authorities were told that she had indeed been bullied in Ireland.

The fact that they took no notice is another black mark against the school authorities who to this day refuse to accept their share of the blame.

The reality that her parents has separated and Phoebe had to find a new life in America when her Irish American mother returned here must have made it very difficult for her.

It is clear from her writings that she was very close to her father and must have missed him terribly.

Thus, when the bullying started it is little wonder that she was unable to cope and the horrific aftermath happened.

What is sad is that it all could so easily have been avoided but no one shouted stop.

So Niall this is not just an American issue? After all the filth and indignation you have thrown about, this is not only about South Hadley. And what about the parents? She was bullied before, where were they in support of her and her fragile self-esteem?
goconnell - Oh dear, I went to Catholic School, and trust me, bullies are just as ignored there as anywhere else. It doesn't matter what school it is, the right policies need to be in place, and need to be followed - with back up from the relevant authorities!
I truly feel for her family, and friends. I just hope that lessons can be learnt and steps can be taken to stop this happening to another young person. And that those lessons can be implemented in ALL schools.
I feel so sorry for her and her family. It should of never had happened. The idiots that bullied her here and else where have a long way to go. Greg
thats why I sent my three to Catholic Schools. that would have dealt with head on. In an amoralistic school everything is fair game with no guilt or consequences. Are we surprised?!
How sad it is. The school could have suspended these students, or even expelled them, but I haven't even heard that they spoke to any of these bullies about what they were doing to Phoebe Prince.
It is shameful to think that could have been avoided, and was not. We teach our children that adults, school authorities and the like will protect them while away from home!! To make it worse, clearly this sweet girl was tortured and suseptable to the cruel and heartless. How many more like her have to leave too soon?
Whether in Ireland or America these monstorous acts of pummeling a fragile soul is not how Eastern cultures resonate in a schoolyard to the point of hanging oneself. This is beyond tradgety. It's what's marching this earth as civilization.
It sickens me that she was not able to find peace, here on earth. Such a young lady to leave so soon. My heart aches for this one, and I can't believe the Hadley Administration failed so miserably . Shameful.
Such a sad story, I hope she's found peace.
