Democrats hoping Bill Daley will not throw in towel on Obama like he did on Al Gore in 2000

By signing up Bill Daley as his new Chief of Staff Barack Obama is tempting fate with a man who has failed to deliver in the most momentous clash between Republicans and Democrats in history.

As Al Gore's campaign manager in the disputed 2000 election, Bill Daley got completely outmaneuvered by that wily old fox Jim Baker on the Republican side and conceded the election to Bush. They lost the media war, the protesters war and finally the vote.

The fact that the campaign also refused to focus and attack third party candidate Ralph Nader, who won 98,000 odd votes in Florida as a vote splitter was also a huge oversight. In so close a state such a mistake was foolish to say the least

Both Daley and legal advisor Warren Christopher were the first to weaken in their assertion that Gore had legitimately won Florida. "He threw in the towel too early " remembers one close aide at the time.

According to Jeffrey Toobin in his book "Too close to call' Daley never seemed to show the heart for the fight that the other side did. He quotes him as saying to Gore "Look you got screwed," ... "but people get screwed every day. They don't have a remedy. Black people get screwed all the time. They don't have a remedy. Sometimes there's no remedy. There's nothing you can do about it...

According to Toobin "Gore railed against the prophesies of hopelessness he was hearing from Daley."

Now Daley is at the heart of a huge upcoming battle between Republicans and Democrats again in congress.

Obama will need all the help he can get The great grandson of Irish immigrants has proven himself in many political positions over the years but this is his most important yet.

Democrats will he hoping he will not end up a surrender monkey to Republicans again.

The amazing thing about the 2000 election was that Bill Daley tried to claim that the other side cheated in the election. I never thought I would live to see the day when a Daly would claim that they were outmanuvered in an election as his late father Richard had elevated election fraud in Chicago to an art form. As the old saying goes: "he's dead and voting in Cook County". BTW, had Al Gore won his "home state", Tennessee, in the 2000 election, he would have been President without Florida. The bigger mistake was sending former Secretary of State Warren Christopher down to Fla to contest the election. As a friend of mine remarked when Clinton appointed Christopher: "That guy looks like he died during the Carter Administration and forgot to fall down". "W" had the "velvet hammer", Gore had death warmed over. Nolo contendere.

Thank God Bill threw the towel in on Algore. Algore is the master mind of the "GReat Global Warming Hoax", when the earth is going through a Global Cooling. Which I'm sure ever sane person in Ireland would agree to. If Algore had become President in '01 and limited the precious green house gases into the atmosphere, then Ireland would be a block of Ice. Instead through the grace of God, and the Supreme Court, Bush was elected. The good people of the United States continued to emit green house gases into the atmosphere, and countering the affects of Global Cooling. No need for the Irish to thank us, after all it was the Irish Monks that saved Civilization.

It was ten years ago - get over it. George Bush won the Florida election fair and square. Al Gore tried to steal an election and didn't manage to get away with it. This is revisionist history on your part.

Not that I really care, but...which Democrats are you talking about, Niall? Not the "professional Left" as Robert Gibbs called them. Daley is anathema to them because he smacks of triangulation (the dreaded "T word" as they call it at the White House). No, Daley won't throw in the towell on Obama. Rather, he's there to help Obama throw in the towell on the Daily Kossites and FireDogLake freaks.

Would it be fair to mention to the rest of the readers just who Bill Daly is besides just the political machinations he may do to get a democrat elected? Daly is a main cog in the corrupt daly machine of thugs who run chicago like their personal fiefdom. Just like Washington DC has been run for the past 2 years.
