Cordoba House is good for New York

The Islamic Center proposed for downtown Manhattan may not have been proposed well, but it intends well. The recently released plans for the building depict a magnificent work of architecture that will be open to the public and add enormously to the cultural cache of a neighborhood in desperate need of investment. Funding sources for the institution have and will be vetted by the US government. Concerns that the mosque will be Saudi Wahhabist have been answered and assuaged.

The proximity issue is not compelling, as the building is tucked around a corner and two blocks away from the perimeter of the WTC site. The historical value of the Burlington Coat Factory was addressed by the Landmark commission, and found to be lacking. No one was killed on that site. Parsing the definition of Ground Zero is cynical. 'It's too close,' is not nearly good enough reason to demonize anyone.

New York is better for its tolerance. Mayor Bloomberg had it right all along.

You have to overlook the liberal progressives hancock. They are all on the rag right now. The flow will be extra heavy in 8 more days. Remember, poor ol dennis is the one that doesn't think muslims flew planes into the towers. He's so bent out of shape he called Juan Williams the N word. The desperation is setting in.
You make maloney look good, hancock.
You sound like you're from county Mars, and if you act like a donkey idiot, I guess you are one.
Now now, hancock, don't call me a "donkey idiot" for mistaking you for an out-of-towner. It's an easy mistake to make. New Yorkers are cosmopolitan, and you sound like you're from Mayberry County. Cut me some slack, willya?
Born and bred in NYC dennis. You sound like a guy who won't answer a straight question. Where are you from? That Islamic center will never be built. They will pay off whatever rich radical muslim matinee idol of yours was putting up the money and everybody will be happy. Except you maybe , you donkey idiot.
I don't know you, hancock. You sound like an out-of-towner.

The decisions regarding Cordoba House have already been made. You're allowed to squawk.
You called me an out of towner Dennis, I adressed that. You obviously being from county wherever are a hypocrite. There won't be a Islamic center there, and the urban blight bullshit excuse won't change that.
You haven't addressed the more important points of Brendan's argument, hancock. That neighborhood is desperately in need of investment, not what he calls cynical parsing of the definition of Ground Zero. Park Place is not sacred; in fact it's threatened by urban blight.

I'm unimpressed with the opinions of out-of-towners who presume to know better than the local planning commission what's best for lower Manhattan. It happens that a number of New Yorkers have no skin in the game either. So the New York Post made a telephone survey - big deal.
I live, work and grew up in NYC dennis . What about you? Most real New Yorkers don't want it there. Not like far left lunatics like you.
The reason Mayor Bloomberg and the local planning commission were so enthusiastic about the Islamic Center being built on Park Place is that they're worried about further deterioration in the neighborhood. If that area becomes a crime-infested sore, property values will certainly plummet. This is a real-world consideration that out-of-towners like McNabb1966, kaydog1, maloney and hancock don't take into account.

That area was chosen as the site of the World Trade Center to build it up. Now that the Trade Center is gone, there's a real possibility that urban blight will return. The place already has its share of downscale bars and girly joints. Preventing the Islamic Center from locating there won't keep the place "holy" - that's a ridiculous idea promoted by out-of-towners.

Brendan has it right. This area is in desperate need of investment. If visitors want a permanent shrine on the site, there's one being built.
"Parsing" the definition of Ground Zero is cynical? Nope, not even close. What IS cynical, however, is portraying the concerns of people who lost loved ones on 9-11 as merely the product of "religious bigotry" or "racism." That's what Bloomberg did...and there is no honor or tolerance in that.
It will be a beautiful base from which to blow your dumb arse up from.
Oh how smoothly the lies roll off your honeyed tongue, Brendan. So the Obama Administration will be vetting out the funding to make sure no 'extremists' are involved? This care from a President who won't even use the WORD 'extremist' with regard to Islamofascism (another word he won't use)? So "the proximity issue is not compelling", even though at Ground Zero mourners will be able to HEAR the victory call of the Muzzein calling the 'faithful' Muslims to prayer over the loudspeaker? But that won't bother Irish Leftists at home in Erin, now will it, Brendan? I especially like your blather that "Parsing the definition of Ground Zero is too cynical". Well let's 'parse' it anyway, shall we? The very BUILDING they want the 'victory mosque' in was hit by the landing gear of one of the 9/11 murder aircraft. That IS Ground Zero, pal. So, "it's too close" IS good enough for me and for all the New Yorkers who rightly feel that this mosque would NOT be seen as anything but a shrine to an Islamofascist murder victory. As for Mayor Bloomberg, he is looking to expand Bloomberg LLC into Qatar and other areas of the Middle East. He is sucking up to his future landlords in supporting the mosque, NOT looking out for what's right for New York. Having been a supporter of the "EffYou" mosque should open up a lot of doors for good old Mayor Bloomberg, but I sure wouldn't use his moral compass as my guide-he has no such compass.
Its good for Muslims overseas and PC liberals at home. They will call it victory , for different reasons.
