Bad news for Donald Trump, Mitt Romney, Sarah Palin et al: President Barack Obama's approval rating is at its highest point in two years.
More than half of all Americans now say Obama deserves to be re-elected, according to the latest poll taken just after US forces targeted and successfully killed al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden.
The presidents standing has also improved on the economy, which is certain to give the 2012 GOP field the vapors.
On the eve of his trip to Ireland strong majorities of Americans now call Obama a strong leader and a remarkable 73 percent now say the president can handle terrorist threats.
Sixty-nine percent say Obama will keep America safe, up from 61 percent in March; 65 percent call him a "strong leader," up from 57 percent.
Sixty-three percent say Obama cares about people like them; 63 percent also say that he understands the problems of ordinary Americans.
Meanwhile, Donald Trump, who said he was 'proud' that he had pressured the President into releasing his long form birth certificate on the same weekend Obama was targeting the al-Qaida leader, has seen his own poll numbers achieve meltdown last week.
In what the Public Policy Polling group described as "one of the quickest rises and falls in the history of presidential politics" Trump's numbers collapsed from 26 percent in the polls to a mere 8 percent last week.
In a poll of Republican voters solely it appeared that The Donald may find himself better off telling people they're "fired" on his TV show The Apprentice.

Get real Cahir and read polls that state FACTS based on a EQUAL amount of Dem & Repubs. AP is so biased and liberal that they took 35 dems to 23 repubs to base their opinion on. You have to read the Rasmusson Poll who is always right ( remember he as called the last three elections right to the last % mark) it's "unbiased" which states it's a 58 oppose Obama to 42 and that was with the 6% bump. How the hell do you think he can be re-elected with a 9% un-employment, gas at almost $5.00 bucks a gallon, all out Allies dispise Obama, inflation rising, terrorism on the rise, food prices going through the roof and did you read his Obama care health plan? Maybe you think people are in favor of this as well. How can a man with no experience never passed a bill in the Senate, never worked except as a union organizer, be the President of the U.S especially when he made statements like " I will stand by my Muslim brothers should the time come to decide what side I'll be on" from his own words in his book. Just reading his book should scare the hell out of every TRUE American.

Sorry, I am in Illinois and I don't know a single person who likes him. As you all know, numbers can be made to say anything you want them to say. You don't suppose the Public Policy Polling group (whoever they are!) may be a slew of Demon-crats, do you? Ha ha!

Gallup are the most respected pollsters in the US. The Gallup Poll has a 6% bump-up between May 1 and May 4: By May 2-4, 52% approved of Pres. Obama's job performance and 40% disapproved. This rise includes a 12-point increase among Republicans (21% approve) and 9 points among independents (49% approve), with no change among Democrats (81% approve). Among 18-29-year-olds, 59% approve; of seniors 65 years or older, 47% approve. Among people who attend church weekly, 42% approve. At 15%, "Conservative Republicans" have the lowest Obama-approval rate. The racial spread in approval ratings is also interesting: White 44%, Black 86%, Hispanic 60%. Those with high school or less education-- 50%-- and those with postgraduate education-- 61%-- despite the fact that lower-income Americans approve of Obama's performance at higher rates than high-income Americans. There's more data available at the Gallup.com site. If he were standing for election today, he'd be in on a landslide.

Conservatives don't have much of an appetite for reality these days, do they? They spend all their time chasing birth certificates while Obama chases Bin Laden.

George Bush the First preened & pranced with high ratings right after Desert Storm, then he lost his Presidency to Bubba Clinton. Obama has a brown guy bumped off in the third-world, and he gets a boost. If gasoline is $7 a gallon in 2012, let's see what happens.
