Sinead O'Connor says Christ would burn down the Vatican -- and she would help him

Bookmark and Share

Controversial singer Sinead O'Connor has stated that "If Christ was here he would be burning down the Vatican. And I for one would be helping him."

She made the remarks to the Irish Independent after the Bishop of the Wexford diocese of Ferns had asked parishioners to help pay the costs of compensation for child abuse cases.

The Bishop of Ferns, Denis Brennan, enraged abuse victims by appealing for funds to pay the $1.2 million owed to the victims.

Ferns in County Wexford was among the worst for child sex abuse by Catholic priests, with more than 100 allegations of made between 1962 and 2002 against 21 priests in the diocese.

In the letter published in the Independent , Sinead O'Connor wrote about her absolute shock that the Bishop was asking parishioners to pay for child sex abuse claim.

She said says the Vatican always put its "business interests before the interests of children."

Meanwhile, another bishop, the Bishop of Killaloe Willie Walsh, has also said he would consider asking parishioners for money to pay abuse victims

"Bishop Walsh would be prepared to consider such an option in the diocese in consultation with parish pastoral councils and finance committees if it became necessary," a spokesman said.

Abuse victim Christine Buckley, said she was "absolutely reeling" and accused church leaders of acting "like Judas" towards victims.

One last observation here: It should be plain to all by now that one who knows so well the mind of Christ, as does the fire breathing, dysfunctional NewAge nut job that Sinead is, would certainly have His ear on this one. The CC is 'fer sure' up for one hell of a smiting... any minute now...!
Next question... is there an edit and/or remove button anywhere here?
Oh, I see, the previous glitch which consisted of censoring every post has reversed to lightning fast addition to the threads, without the time to edit. What will happen next? Fingerprints and a photo of the poster appearing at the top of each post? Take cover all you flamers!
And the Oscar goes to... CanadianPat, Christisall, Rebelforce, Yankeegator7 kickstar, in his fever to spout off seems to be choking on his own body fluids, stuttering, sending out criptic half-messages, inventing the 'dogma of personal buildinghood' and canonizing a certifiable loon as 'enlightened.' All those brilliant insights will, of course, change the
WHAT A HYPOCRITE the bishop of ferns is, asking the abused to pay the abusers. A plague on him and his abusing friends. Don't burn the Vatican sell it to some rich sheik and pay the abused.
Christisall, said "Sinead is a pig. . .end of story" ..............Dear sir of madam, there is no answer to your brilliant, well thought out, and researched argument. My congratulations, the world needs more like you.
Either they will or they will not. I am a strong supporter of the Irish catholic priests, who have dedicated there lives to help people all over the world. Irish Catholic Hierarchy are struggling to reform policy. I would support change.
I think she's saying it to bring attention to the stupidity of the bishop's request. As one friend of mine says "Why doesn't the Vatican sell one of their paintings? Then they'd have more money than they need."
Dear 666, what are you talking about? Go back and reread my comment, and do please stop foaming at the mouth.I do find most of the comments on this item both pro and con like Sinead herself a little over the edge.Burning down the Vatican is hardly the answer to the problem of Church members not following Church teachings, but with a name like 666 one would think you take delight in it.
I don't think Sinead O'Connor, an ex-Catholic, or anyone else who has nothing to do with the Catholic Church in Ireland should have anything to say about its running. Let's make a deal? - you don't spit on my church and I won't spit on your protestant bibles, or whatever you consider your non-Catholc beliefs to be based on.
To canadianpat, why do you and the rest of your ilk resort to insults and name calling? You said she is a liar, give me an example of her lies. So what if she is a atheist? Because she doesn't spend her Sundays talking to the ceiling and listing to a cross-dressing pedophile this makes her a bad person? Her only crime in your mind, is that she can think for herself.
Tha Diocese of Ferns and it's administrators are responsible by not addressing and handling this problem over many years. Now that the day of reckoning has arrived the administrators should do what they didn't do in the past - show leadership by disposing of substantial land banks, buildings and other assets. It's not justifiable to subject the faithful to further and continuing abuse when the solution is readily at hand
AS a Roman Catholic i say let those sinner pedophile priests pay for their sins by taking out loans to pay for their own crimes. Bishop should pay for his lack of leadership as well as the Vatican, Let the Vatican sell some of its Art and Sell off its Gold,
Here's a novel idea: let priest be married. Interesting p.r. move, Sinead. One trick pony.
Sexual abuse has been going on in families and with friends of families and being covered up by adult members for various reasons of survival, since Adam was a pup.It has nothing to do with celibacy
Poor Sinead, why does she think this has anything to do with the Vatican? Also the cost to each parishioner would be less than $1.00 per year. Not a big ask really.
Sin ead who?
Sinead is a pig. . .end of story. . .
Bull, Flanigan. . .There is no rationale to your words. . .The Church should never adapt to your needs; you need to adapt to God's words. . .
Sidney doesn't know the Bible. Please read Matthew 16:18 "You are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my Church, and the gates of hell will not overcome it". This is the reason the Church is still alive! We all belong to the Body of Christ - the Church! How God could destroy it? 1 Corinthians 12:12-28; Ephesians 1:22-23,
If the Catholic church allowed priests to marry we wouldn't have sex abuse cases or marital affairs. It's time for the church to make a change, and allow priests to marry. IT'S LONG OVER DUE !!!
I don't know how Ireland works. Does the Church receive state support over there? If so, all taxpayers have to pay, ultimately. If not, it is the parishioners who will have to pay anyway, and the bishop asking for a special donation doesn't make any difference. Here in the United States, it's the parishioners who pay ultimately, no matter who signs the check.
They just don't get it, do they?
Sinead is absolutely Right- shame on the Church - A disgrace. Fáinne óir ort Sinead! Rath Dé ort!
Irish Central (a/k/a Catholic Bashing Central) should be ashamed to print such bigoted trash.
I don't think Catholics should have to pay either, but, Lordy, why doesn't Sinead get a life. She's nothing but a brat who likes to hear herself blabber. Speaking of fire, Sinead... get used to it!
Ya know, killowen, people who have been sexually abused will self medicate because folks like you tell them to shut up about it and get over it. I wonder how you would grow up with a mother who has been passed around like a six pack at a catholic orphanage?
Right on, Sinead. Loyal Catholics should not have to pay the victims of child abuse. The church should. Sell a few chalices or a few painting from the Vatican.
This drug crazed soul has no appreciation of the value of what the Vatican provides for. Buckingham Palace provides a similar function in housing the "Pope" of Protestantism. Israel and Mecca have their own version in keeping their flock sheparded. Other religions too, do the hookey pookey to delight their sheep. Fear keeps 'em all clinging to something Siobhan's way is cannabis and lsd .. god only knows.
Poor Sinead; she never had a thought that she was unwilling to speak aloud. Perhaps by the time she's 80 she will have learned some wisdom. As it stands, it's just another, "Hey, did you here what Sinead said?" Chuckle, chuckle.
