| Ryan O'Neal and Tatum O'Neal his daughter |
Eldest son Griffin, 47, is currently two months into a 16-month sentence for driving under the influence (DUI), while daughter Tatum recently left rehab after suffering a "cocaine relapse".
The pair's half-brother Redmond - whose mother was late actress Farrah Fawcett - is currently seeking court-ordered treatment for heroin addiction.
Ryan said: "Look, I don't give myself a break. I had four children. Only sportscaster Patrick's OK. Griffin's in prison. Redmond, who feels terrible guilt, is in rehab. Tatum, rehab. I had my own problems. Is all this my fault? I guess, yes. When his mother was dying I paid sheriffs $800 overtime to bring Redmond in chains. I keep all her mementoes in a safe to give him someday."
Ryan is preparing to release his autobiography, 'Both of Us: My Life With Farrah', chronicling his time with the 'Charlie's Angels' actress - who died of cancer in June 2009 - and he admits their relationship was not perfect, mainly due to his own insecurities.
He told the New York Post newspaper: "She and I were together on and off 18 years, and I always kept journals. Lots of information. Every night I wrote in a diary.
"Ours was a wonderful but imperfect love. I'm a semi-nice guy, but I was jealous, insecure, everything you don't want in a man. Most times I don't like me. It's all I talk about now."

Also, Ryan O'Neal if it's any consolation to you at all, self-atonement, and atonement with other people around me, and my having courage within my atonement hasn't been at all easy or smooth for me, either. It still isn't, daily. No way. However, atonement's still truly very much worth the daily effort, though. Take my very true word for that, Ryan. Really, it is. God truly comforts, loves, and guides us through it, and he always will. ---------Very Sincerely, Kelly Joanne Cannon

I'm glad he's at least making one step towards reuniting with his kids. Ryan O'Neal, I don't hate you. I certainly don't want you to die at all, ever, either. No way at all. You're also in three very famous movies which I've always loved since I was a teenager, and own, now. I always and forever will like you in those movies, too, Ryan. God's always with you, Ryan, always never forget that as he's always with us all. What are the rest of us supposed to always say though, whenever you and your family air your family problems publicly? It actually makes us, me, feel really awkward, mainly. Actually, we truly have stuff of our very own to atone for daily, so we're not always thinking about you all, and judging you. I swear we're not doing that. Even so, each person feels differently inside from another person because they really are different, and have had different life experiences. We really can't put ourselves in other people's shoes no matter how hard we try, either. Thus, we really can't judge others. We're not God at all, and we the public are not the ones you've hurt, Ryan. You, and your family should tell each other your problems and true confessions especially when and if you really mean them. Tell them, Ryan, your kids. I'm not trying at all to be mean by writing this just truthful is all. That's it. Very sincerely, Kelly Joanne Cannon
