Rory McIlroy says he is saving the best for last as he bids for a $10 million jackpot in Atlanta after a late push from America’s Brandt Snedeker.

The Ulsterman remains in position for the multi-million dollar top prize at the FedEx Championship finale despite Snedeker’s charge.

McIlroy doesn’t have to win the Tour Championship event to grab the bonus for topping the FedEx ratings.

All he has to do is finish in the top five and ahead of Snedeker, Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Nick Watney.

Snedeker made his move on Saturday when a third round 64 saw him share the lead on eight under par with England’s Justin Rose.

American Ryan Moore (65) was alone in third on six under with McIlroy sharing fourth place on five under alongside Masters champion Bubba Watson and Jim Furyk.

McIlroy shot his 11th successive sub-70 score with a 68 but the world number one will have to go lower on Sunday.

Speaking after he finished his final round with a par saving putt, McIlroy said: “It depends on how I play tomorrow.

“I wanted to make the par putt because I didn’t want to give a shot away right at the end.

“I felt like I played pretty solid but you have to stay patient.

“It’s one of those courses where I don’t think anyone is really going that low. I might need one and hopefully I have saved it for the last day.”
