Northern Ireland has won three gold medals at the Commonwealth games for the first time in history. This is the first time since 1994 they have won gold medals for boxing.

Boxer Paddy Barnes was the first to collect a gold medal for his victory over Namibia's Jafet Uuton in the light flyweight division.

"I always had it under control. I knew I could do it. He was bigger than me and he ran away a lot. I knew I just had to keep a tight guard," said 23-year-old Barnes.

"I rank it above the Olympic (bronze) medal. I'm number one in the Commonwealth and next year I'll be number one in the world," he added.

Paddy Gallagher put up an impressive resistance to England's Callum Smith for his Welterweight Victory. Speaking about the win Gallagher said: "It's unbelievable, it's hard to say how I feel, I don't know if it has sunk in yet but it's brilliant to win, I'm just so happy for everyone involved. He was a great opponent and the opponents have got harder as the rounds have gone on - but I was able to pull through."

The third medal was collected by Eamon O'Kane who destroyed England's Anthony Ogogo in the middle weight division. This was an unsuspected come back for O'Kane who considered hanging up his boxing gloves after he endured a disappointing performance at the 2006 Commonwealth games in Melbourne.
