A New York Ladies Football minor selection prepared for their inter-county competition in August in Ireland last Sunday with an U23 provincial challenge match last Sunday.

A Munster/Ulster selection overcame a Leinster/Connacht selection in Gaelic park as selectors looked to prepare for the twenty team tournament including New York, London, and 18 county teams.

The panel of 24 will travel to Portmarnock in County Dublin from the 5th of August until the 12th, while the tournament commences in a blitz format from the 8th to the 9th.
Managers Mike Ruane, a Mayo native, and Ricky Browne from Clare, both of St Brigids GAA Club looked on as a selection of u23s took part in an enjoyable challenge played in the harshest of conditions.

A number of promising girls stood out such as forwards Kelly McCormack who scored five beautiful points, and Caitlin Browne. Midfielders Margarete Brady and Mairead Ruane who scored two cracking goals also caught the eye, along with the athletic Heather Durcan.

Cavan’s Fiona Skelly,Briana Tierney and Alisha Jordan added to the occassion with excellent individual performances in a rare u23 encounter, although attention will now turn to the performances of this minor selection in Ireland in August.
