Senior football semi final
Lenehan the Cork Star
Cork 1-10 Donegal 0-07
Cork qualified to meet Kerry in the KO final after a hard fought win over Donegal. They can thank their defense who held their opponents to 0-02 in the first half and were constantly creating chances out of the back. Granted all were not always converted into scores at the other end as wayward shooting and timely tackles made the day far more difficult than it should have been. Mikey Lenehan was the star and he paved the way with four points in the opening thirty minutes.
lways in front he was slippery as an eel when in position. But for a very good save by Brian Cuilinan on a Lenehan shot, the lead would have been far wider. Donegal had a mini resurrection to open the second half with four of the first five points. Conor Lynam showed his quality with all four scores and was deadly when given opportunity. It just didn’t come enough. In the aftermath of an incident with ten minutes left when Jason Kelly and PJ Flanagan both received straight reds, Cork got the goal that clinched the contest. Cathel Hatzer finished after Mickey Lenehan again did all the spade work.
