Two Irish bar owners are behind a massive bid to take over Newcastle United.

Newcastle, better known as the Magpies, were relegated from the Premier League last season and have been seeking a buyer ever since.

Irish publicans Charlie Chawke and Louis Fitzgerald are attempting to put a syndicate together to take over the struggling team.

The pair have some experience in football takeovers as they were both part of the Drumaville syndicate which bought Sunderland for €20m ($27.8m) in 2006.

Newcastle is for sale at the relative bargain price of €116m ($161m) down from a high of €700m ($975m) 18 months ago.
