The wife of former All Ireland medal winning Kilkenny hurler Adrian Ronan was taken hostage in Ireland Tuesday morning.

An armed gang broke in to the home of Ronan, a Bank of Ireland official, early Tuesday morning and held his wife hostage while the former hurler went to his job.

Ronan was instructed to collect money from the Parliament Street branch in Kilkenny and await instructions on where to take the sum.

However, no further contact was made by the gang and Ronan’s wife was found unharmed at a weather station at Granges Road in Kilkenny.

The family was reunited later in the day and though shaken, no one was seriously injured.

Gardai (Irish police) in Kilkenny are on the lookout for the gang.
