Farmer Tim Daly shares the latest growth update on your Irish Heritage Trees and who he would dedicate his heritage tree to!
The Irish Heritage Tree program, an initiative created by IrishCentral in partnership with the Tree Council of Ireland, recently caught up with Tim Daly, the farmer of our location site near Drimoleague in the heart of West Cork.
We are proud to plant only native Irish trees and Tim explains that the woodland includes oak, hazel, birch, Scots pine, rowan, willow, alder, yew, holly, aspen, bird cherry, douglas fir, elder, crab apple, spindle and whitethorn.
"The trees planted under the Irish Heritage Tree program have been growing really well in all of their habitats. With phenomenal growth from some of the birch and alders, where we are already seeing heights of 10 feet and over," he says.

'Crithir' the creative hub located on Tim Daly's farm in West Cork
Speaking about how he was introduced to farming, Tim says, "My grandfather Con Daly was a farmer and a creative thinker. I have fond memories of being on the farm with him and of my aunts and uncles talking about his connection to the land and how he would come up with innovative solutions to problems faced on the farm.
"I guess this always inspired me to think outside the box. So when the chance came up to purchase a farm, I jumped at it, even though I have no real background in farming myself. The journey is ongoing on the farm and every day is a school day, with a strong focus on working with and supporting nature.
"We are moving towards organic, with an organic certification process in motion. We are also embracing creative thinking through our creative hub 'Crithir', which provides artist residencies on the farm."
