The Burren’s Tommy McCarthy has produced a romantic comedy of music rivalry called “The Fiddlers of Inishbofin,” which will make its debut this Wednesday, March 13.

Based on a series of true events, “Fiddlers” follows the story of a troupe of Irish musicians who take the ferry to Inishbofin for a session and birthday celebration. The festivities are disrupted when musical rivals Fiona, a Dublin-based psychologist, and Liam, an islander and organic farmer, are pitted against each other after Liam almost destroys Fiona’s prized fiddle.

As Liam repairs the instrument, Fiona extends her stay on the island and the Dublin gal finds herself falling head over heels not only for Liam, but also for the quiet island life.

“The Fiddlers of Inishbofin” is playing at The Burren Backroom, 147 Elm St., Somerville. Showtimes are: March 13, 14, and 15 at 7:30 p.m., and March 16 at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 in advance through www.brownpapertickets.com, or $30 at the door (if available).
