Cavan Fleadh was a turning point for Irish traditional music

\"\"

One of the most exceptional achievements belonged to wunderkind 11-year-old Haley Richardson of the Delaware Valley branch from South Jersey who won first place in the under-12 fiddle competition and another first in under-12 fiddle slow airs.   Her fellow DV branch member Emily Safko won a first for under-12 harp slow airs.

Another double winner was Torrin Ryan from Massachusetts, who won a first for uilleann pipes slow airs and a third for senior uilleann pipes, and Ryan Ward from Queens got two third place finishes for under-12 piano and accompaniment.

The Pearl River under-12 ceili band who won the All-Ireland last year garnered a third place finish this year, still showing great skills and determination at a young age. Singer Molly O’Riordan came in third in songs in English category for 15-18 year olds.  St. Louis Irish Arts copped third place in the 15-18 and O-18 Grupai Ceoil competitions.

All the final fleadh results and other info from the successful Derry Fleadh can still be viewed at www.2013 Fleadh.ie.
