What a difference a year makes. This time last year it was about €50 a head at the local restaurant for dinner - this year they're doing a four-course meal for €17.95. The price of the meal is an absolute bargain in any currency (even for us dollar-paid tourists) but the wine is still a total rip-off.

The cheapest wine was €20 and tasted horrible. We had to pay €27 for something that tasted as if the contents once grew in a vineyard.

Overall, everything seems to have dropped in price here.

The property crash has been well-documented elsewhere but I just had to take a picture of these apartments for sale in Bettystown.

The price is low enough for me to even consider taking the plunge but to be honest, I fully expect there to be even more bargains over the next 12 months.

However, there were no queues of people lining up to pay up for a step on the property ladder.

There's very little interest in Ireland even at these prices.
