Adios Rick Perry

Duck and roll folks, apparently the gays aren't content with ruining Christmas and the wedding announcement section of your local paper - according to Rick Perry now they're after Christianity itself.

They're waging war against it. They want to outlaw it. They want to make it illegal for you to pray.  Or something.

'I’m not ashamed to admit that I’m a Christian, but you don’t need to be in the pew every Sunday to know there’s something wrong in this country when gays can serve openly in the military but our kids can’t openly celebrate Christmas or pray in school,' Perry says in his latest ad.

That's right, gay soldiers can put their lives on the line for the United States in Iraq and Afghanistan but they will apparently only do so if they receive a promise it will ruin a child's Christmas or their freedom to pray in school.

How's that for a massive international gay conspiracy?

So you better pick your side in this war of the faithful. Is your Christian faith less important to you than your fabulous Uncle Karl, say? Because you can't be a Christian and supportive of gay people, ever, obviously.

It's almost as if Rick Perry wanted to use your Christian faith for his own political ends. But that would be massively cynical and divisive, wouldn't it? I for one am astounded to learn his dog whistle ad has received a record number of dislikes on Youtube. I am also shocked by the outpouring of revulsion it seems to have generated.

The truth is, in pandering shamelessly to his fundamentalist Christian base, Perry has demonstrated why he alienates the wider American public and is unfit for national office. That's also why he will never be the GOP's candidate.
