Irish superstar Bono turned 50 yesterday (May 10). The Nobel Peace Prize nominee and his fellow bandmates formed U2 back in 1976 and they were signed to Island records within four years.

Born Paul David Hewson, the rocker’s humanitarian work and advocacy on behalf of people suffering from Aids in Africa saw him named a 'Man of Peace' in 2008, and he was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2003.

Success hasn't changed him though. His favorite food is still fish and chips, and his favorite drink is Jack Daniels or tea.

The singer’s trademark sunglasses are not just a rock ‘n’ roll fashion statement – his eyes are sensitive to light. He has collaborated during his career with everyone from Bruce Springsteen, Johnny Cash and Jennifer Lopez to Frank Sinatra and Luciano Pavarotti.
