Six award-winning photos depicting Ireland's beauty through a lens are set to travel the island of Ireland it was revealed this week.

Some of the photos are the work and property of a young Co. Wexford teenager Gearoid Gibbs, who won the under-18 section of An Taisce Clean Coast Photography competition to beat out several other wonderful photographs of Ireland.

Andy McInroy won the over 18-category for his photograph of sea swells crashing against Fanad Lighthouse in Co. Donegal.

Annabel McLoone, Blue Flag and Green Coast awards manager, said there had been huge interest in the competition.

"There were over 500 photographs entered into this competition illustrating the vast character of our coastline, from Fanad in Donegal to the Skelligs in Cork.

"From dolphins to surfers and from families enjoying a day out at the beach to dramatic seascapes, these photographs truly captured the essence of the Irish coastline."

The competition had a prize fund of €3,000.

The photos will be on display in various art houses and similar venues throughout the country in the coming weeks.
