A new report has found that with St. Patrick’s Day falling on a weekend this year, there should be a palpable jump in consumer spending for the holiday.

USA Today has reported on a survey conducted by National Retail Federation which found that 54 percent of those surveyed intend to celebrate the holiday. That statistic is a significant jump of 11 percent from jump last year in 2011.

Consumers expect to spend about $35 each, for a total of $4.6 billion according to the survey.

Some 30 percent of those surveyed plan to head to a bar or restaurant for St. Patrick’s Day, while another 30 percent said they were looking forward to a special dinner at home.

19 percent said they will attend a private party and 24 percent will spend money on decorations for home and office.

The National Retail Federation went on to say that “For many consumers, St. Patrick’s Day is the officially kickoff to spring — typically a time when many people start stocking up on warm weather apparel, patio and garden merchandise and even home accents like candles, throw pillows and new bed sets.”

While there is a visible jump in the spending for 2012’s St. Patrick’s Day, the holiday is still one of the relatively smaller ones spending-wise. For instance, Easter, which is next month, is expected to bring in about $15 billion.
