With large Irish American populations in key battleground states such as Michigan and Pennsylvania, the Irish American support base could prove vital in a tight contest in November.

President Biden, who has roots in Co Mayo and Co Louth, has been described as the 'most Irish' president in US history. Last year, he celebrated his Irish roots with an official visit to Ireland that brought him to Dublin, Louth, and Mayo.

Following a decades-old tradition, Biden declared March 2024 as Irish American Heritage Month a few weeks ago.

In his proclamation, Biden wrote: "During Irish-American Heritage Month, we honor our Irish ancestors, all those who carry on their legacies, and the values that have always bound Ireland and the United States together.

"These values — including determination, decency, and dignity — have been passed down from generation to generation in families like my own and have been grafted into the American character."
