Sinn Fein has suffered a double blow in two separate opinions polls published in the wake of the Mairia Cahill affair.

Party leader Gerry Adams has seen a 7 per cent drop in his personal support in a Sunday Business Post poll.

And the party support is down in both that poll and another undertaken for the Sunday Times newspaper.

Support for Sinn Fein is down three points in the Sunday Business Post poll, taken early last week.

That poll shows Sinn Féin at 20 per cent popularity, down three since the last similar poll in mid-September.

Senior coalition partners Fine Gael are down two per cent but still ahead in the poll at 26 per cent with independents and others gaining five points to 28 per cent.

Fianna Fáil are unchanged on 18 per cent with Labour still on 8 per cent.

The Sunday Times poll also offers little encouragement for Adams as he continues to refute claims by Cahill.

The personal satisfaction rate with Adams is down seven points since August to 40 per cent.

But he is still only a point behind the most popular leader, Labour’s Joan Burton, according to the Evening Echo newspaper in Cork.

The Sunday Times polls has Sinn Féin unchanged on 19 per cent as is Fianna Fail on 18% but Labour has  fallen five points to 9 per cent.

Fine Gael is up one to 25 per cent with independents and others gain four to 28 per cent.
