An Irishwoman is on the run after embezzling at least $225,000 from her workplace, according to police in Troutdale, Oregan.

Mary Elizabeth Carter was the practice manager at Paws and Claws Pet Medical Center in Troutdale. After working her way up through the company, the 46-year-old became responsible for monitoring and managing the company accounts.

"Carter is a suspect in multiple embezzlement cases from local business, with the financial losses totaling over $225,000," Troutdale Police report in a statement released last November.

"We have two outstanding felony warrants for aggravated theft on Carter."

Sergeant Shrake, from the Troutdale Police Department confirmed that the Irishwoman is still on the run.

“There is a still a warrant out for her arrest, and she hasn’t been picked up yet,” he told IrishCentral on Friday.

Originally, it was the Internal Revenue Services who first alerted Ken DeRemer, the owner of Paws and Claws of the financial irregularities.

DeRemer described the Irishwoman as a “very outgoing person” with a “strong personality."

Police discovered that since 2004, Carter used company credit cards to buy gas and pay bills, including one of almost $2,000 at Maceys and shop at Costco, G.I. Joe’s, Car Toys, Nordstrom and Sundance Catalog.

Police originally arrested the Irish woman in January 2010. They took her passport and she was released the next day.

“I got so deep into it that it wouldn’t matter,” Carter told Troutdale Police Detective Patrick Leahy, when she was arrested. “I knew I would get caught anyway.”

A Grand Jury indicted Carter in October and police went to her North Portland home where she lived with her boyfriend with a warrant. However, they soon discovered she had fled, when they questioned her partner. He told police, he had no idea where she was, and that she had just been gone one day.

Troutdale Police are now asking for the public assistance in locating Carter. She is described as 5-feet-7-inches tall and 160 pounds and has a slight Irish accent.
