A Canadian dentist who traveled 4,000 miles to find the Irish woman of his dreams, has failed in his quest to find love.

Sandy Crocker (28), from the Pacific coast province of British Columbia spent a month in Ireland searching for a mystery woman he met  briefly last summer, while on vacation.

The chance encounter happened on 9th July, when Crocker and his brother popped into An Teach Bia cafe in Ennistymon, County Clare, on their way to visit the Cliffs of Moher.

"She was eating and I didn't want to interrupt her meal so I waited until she was leaving and I asked her for directions to the Cliffs of Moher," he said.

Crocker described the beauty as being in her mid to late-twenties with freckles and reddish brown hair.

Back home in Canada, Crocker was unable to get the mystery lady out of his head.

“She never left my mind, so I decided why not go back and try to find her.”

A lovesick Croker spent the past month searching Ireland for the flame haired beauty.

While he managed to find two "Ennistymon girls", neither turned out to be the one.

"I left Ireland thrilled with having such a warm reception and so much support by everyone," he said.

"Even without ever finding the girl, I claimed success by having came here and done my best to find her."

"In the very beginning I knew that by at least making the effort to find the girl, whatever the end result was, I would be able to happily move on. Given how popular the story has become I’m sure people will not allow me to forget my ‘Ennistymon girl’ and my eventful return to Ireland."
