An Irishman suspected of performing 24 bank robberies was turned into the FBI after he confessed his sins to his American girlfriend.

Adam Lynch, decided to come clean with his girlfriend Julia Lundstrom in an Fado's Irish pub in Denver, after the couple had been going through a rough patch.

After separating the couple had met on April 18 to discuss their future. The Irishman pleaded with Lunstrom to get back together and to prove to her he wanted to come clean, he revealed he was the “Ho-Ho- Hum bandit”, according to Jefferson County sheriff's investigator Tom Acierno of the FBI's Safe Streets Task Force.

"He showed her the FBI website on his mobile phone and she saw his picture and that he was wanted for bank robbery," Acierno told the Denver Post. "She tried to keep him calm and keep him there."

Then the robber’s former girlfriend went outside the bar and called local police.

"She told them, 'I am sitting here with a bank robber and he told me he's done all these bank robberies in California and Denver,' " Acierno said.

The Dublin man was later arrested at the bar in the early hours of the morning of April 19.

He was later charged in a U.S. District Court in Denver with bank robbery and he is suspected of robbing 10 banks in Colorado, 12 in Californian, one in Wyoming and one on Washington State.

The Irish man has pleaded not guilty, if convicted he could face up to twenty years in prison.
Labeled by authorities as the “Ho-Hum bandit” as Lynch never wore disguises and would approach tellers and hand them a note demanding money and telling them he had a gun.

He would then walk calmly out the front door of the banks. Also on surveillance footage the Dublin man seemed bored and sometimes yawned during robberies.

After leaving Ireland 16 years ago, the Dublin man ended up living in Corte Madera a well-to-do neighborhood in Calfornia with his wife Catherine.

The couple ran Four Paws, a dog-walking business in San Francisco.

The companies website has been shut down, but customers described Lynch as “very professional” and “friendly”.

At some point he divorced his wife and moved to San Diego and began a relationship with Lundstrom.

He  took his new flame on trips around the world , including a trip to his native Ireland, before the couple moved to Denver so Lundstrom could take up a job there.

"This is a classic example of a bank robber hooked on it," FBI Supervising Special Agent Phil Niedringhaus told the Denver Post. "He had a job and was successful. He was living near Coors Field in an expensive apartment. He wouldn't have stopped until he got caught."
