"Pretty soon they’ll be turning its name to 'Spider-Man: Turn Off the Lawsuits.'" This being just one of the jokes cracked about the cursed Broadway show "Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark" , made by Tony Awards host Neil Patrick Harris last night.

In fact the awards host didn't just pepper the show with digs here and there, he gave himself 30 seconds to throw out a run of "Spider-Man" disaster show, jokes.

"Spider-Man: The only show that warns you about strobe-light and falling actors."

"No audience members were harmed in the making of this musical. Yet."

The troubled show, "Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark" wasn't in any running for a Tony Award, so having the comic-book related stage show making an 'elephant in the room' appearance just added to the nights amusement.

The Spider-Man show doesn't officially open until Tuesday 14, but that didn't stop Bono and The Edge from having a laugh at their own expense when presenting an award.

The L.A. Times reports, "An uncharacteristically chagrined Bono and the Edge finally appeared on stage during a segment that bounced between awkward comedy, apology, compliments to the Broadway community and their assurance that the musical, which has been in previews since November, would finally open this week."

"When I first saw the Tonys on our schedule, I just sort of assumed we had been nominated," quipped Bono. "It appears we missed the deadline," noted the Edge, when they were both on stage.

"With its spiraling multimillion-dollar budget, chaotic backstage dramas, the firing of its creative force Judy Taymor and a stream of serious cast and crew injuries, "Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark" was the running joke of the evening, sparking a torrent of punch lines that at times provoked a valiant but pained smile from Bono, the U2  singer who composed the score along with band mate the Edge," reads the L.A. Times.

The ceremony even went so far as to open with a musical number from the production, spurning the host Neill Patrick Harris to sing about how the superhero was facing "death-defying budget overruns" while a costumed Spider-Man sprawled over a ticker with an escalating dollar sign swinging across the stage.

'Harris remarked that he had hoped to avoid "Spider-Man" jokes — they're too easy," he said. So, in an effort to get them out of the way in one fell swoop, the host riffed nonstop to see how many jokes he could fire off in 30 seconds,' the L.A. Times report reads.

"The only thing not falling over at Spider-Man are the ticket prices."

"Julie Taymor knew it was over when she woke and found the head of War Horse in her bed."

"Spider-Man is the only show in Broadway where the actors in the cast are actually in casts."

Then when his time was up, he finished with, "I sent Bono a congratulatory cable but it snapped." Classic.
