A 25-year-old man shot himself in the head outside his fiancee's home in South Dublin. The couple had lost their seven-month-old baby after a car accident in 2009.

Darragh Best, from Tallaght, in Dublin, was found outside the home shared with his fiancee. The gun he had shot himself with lay by his side.

This is the second tragedy to befall his fiancée Bernadette McNevin after the couple lost their baby, Hannah Louise, in 2009. She is being comforted by her family as the police investigate how he obtained the 9mm handgun.

A source told the Evening Herald: "This is an unbelievable tragedy. The young couple were well liked in the local area and were planning their wedding."

It's understood that Best walked out of his home at 1.15am on Tuesday, stood on the sidewalk outside his home and shot himself in the head.

Locals have reported hearing two shots being discharged.
