Quick, which two TV giants appeal most to Republican voters? If you said Bill O'Reilly you'd be right. If you said  Ellen DeGeneres, believe it or not you would also be right.

According to OnTopMag, Daytime talk show host Ellen DeGeneres is now America's favorite TV personality, even among Republicans.

That means even people who regularly vote to keep her a second class citizen think she's a doll.

55-year-old DeGeneres found her comedy career took a nose dive in 1997 after she came out as gay on the cover of TIME magazine.

But over time the resourceful and talented comedienne still went on to become one of Hollywood's biggest stars. Forbes calculated her earnings for just last year stand at $55 million.

A new Harris Poll of more than 2,100 people makes it official, DeGeneres and Fox News pundit Bill O'Reilly tie for the title of favorite TV personality among Republicans.

'That surprised us,' Regina Corso, a Harris Poll senior vice president, said in a recent The Los Angeles Times profile of DeGeneres. 'We had to go back and double-check the data.'

'Culture changes all the time,' DeGeneres philosophized after hearing of the findings, 'so I try not to analyze it too much.'

The Ellen DeGeneres Show reportedly almost didn't make it onto the air because station executives worried she was too much for daytime.

'I don't know what they thought,' DeGeneres said. 'That I would stand in front of a rainbow flag and play a heavy rotation of Melissa Etheridge, Indigo Girls and k.d. Lang?'
