Wicklow and Kildare Counties’ residents may have had the shock of their lives yesterday once UFO like shapes appeared in the clouds during the day.

Residents snapped photographs of the formations that resembled flying saucers, but Irish Weather Online confirmed they were not UFOs.

The clouds forming above Ireland yesterday are known as lenticular clouds which are motionless lens-shaped clouds that form at high altitudes, normally aligned at right-angles to the wind direction.

---------------------

Lenticular clouds have been mistaken for UFOs, or "visual cover" for UFOs, in the past because these clouds have smooth saucer-like shapes and share some of the same characteristics that people have described UFOs to have.

The more scientific name for these formations is altocumulus lenticularis and although no aliens are involved, they sure are a sight to see.

There all crazy "beam me up scotty"
Georgie you really are a little off in the head. Sexist I may be, but racist, no, you have that covered for all members of IC. How quickly you forget most of your ranting and raving!
sham1977: So you're a sexist as well as a racist?
LOL @George Dillon!! I mean "little" in regards to the stereotypical image of aliens - you know little green men!! It's amusing to see that you took it as a direct dig at your "size" - kind of sensitive in this matter, huh??
It got the wrong address. It was meant to land in Wasilla to pick up Sarah.
Mamaginnty beat his arse and now he wants her to pay for the stitches.I would be happy to pay his bill.Come to Cork.
sh**1977: Why do you say that I am "little"? Just what is your definition of "big"? Tell us your criteria and I will confirm if your opinion is accurate. Alternatively, ask the poster Momma Ginnty. I suspect she and I had a close encounter when I was on vacation in Donegal a while back. She owes me for medical bills.
At least one of them must have a very popular member of IC at the helm - a little green man called George Dillon.
aother Knock, or a burst from UK's Sellafield atomic plant.
Maybe it was Obama returning !! Heaven help us !
Given the willingness off the Irish to be ordered around by the EU, perhaps they figure that Ireland would be the best place to start colonizing earth.
Looking for Hy-Brasil no doubt.

I hope my government did'nt scramble our P51 Mustangs. It would be a waste of fuel and each time they take to the air they depreciate in value. It will be some years before we can get hold of some Sabre fighters from the Yanks.
