Top Irish female presenter Miriam O'Callaghan has announced that she will not be running in the presidential election next year.

She denied the move via her Twitter account this afternoon. She said "To avoid this presidential story getting out of control, I have just issued a statement confirming I will NOT be a candidate in the 2011 elec [sic].”

Over the weekend the Sunday Tribune had reported that O'Callaghan would run for the position. However, she has now denied having ever considered this.

A statement issued by RTE (the national broadcaster) read O'Callaghan "is delighted and honored that some people are considering her as a potential presidential candidate she would like to stress that she will not be standing for the position, independent or otherwise, in the upcoming election in 2011”.
