Three hotel employees have appeared in court, in Mauritius, in connection to the murder Michaela Harte, the 27-year-old daughter of the Tyrone Gaelic football manager, Mickey Harte.

Michaela Harte was found strangled to death in the bathroom of her honeymoon suite, at the five-star Legends Hotel complex. The injuries she sustained showed that she attempted to fight off her attacker.

She was found in the bath by her husband John McAreavey, a County Down footballer. Blood was found under Michaela’s nails. Mr McAreavey volunteered a sample and was cleared as a suspect.

The hotel computer showed that their bedroom door had been opened with a keycard two minutes before Michaela returned to the room. It is believed that she interrupted a botched burglary. She had returned to her bedroom to get some biscuits to have with her tea after lunch.

Inspector Ranjit Jokhoo told Irish state broadcaster RTE “We arrested three employees of Legends Hotel…We have got reason to believe that they have something to do with the death of Michaela Harte."

In court one of the accused claimed that the had been the victim of police brutality yesterday. Room attendant, Abinash Treeboowoon (29) told the court that he had been roughly treated by the Mauritian police. His legal counsel have asked that a full investigation into the incident be carried out.

Treeboowoon and room attendant Sandip Monea (41) are charged with the murder of  Michaela McAreavy, nee Harte. A third man Raj Theekov (33), also a room attendant, is being held on a conspiracy charge. The three will appear in court again next Wednesday, January 19.

Last night, Michaela’s, Mickey Harte, released a statement flanked by his two sons. It was shown on all Irish news programs. He said his family were going through the “worst nightmare anyone can imagine”. He described his daughter, who never left his side, as a “gem” and said their hearts were broken.

He said “I just loved her to bits and so did her whole family…We are so devastated. 27 years of a wonderful wee girl who grew up into a beautiful lady, just so radiant, just so special. We will miss her so much."

Mr Harte also said the family’s hearts went out to Michael’s husband who was “devastated” and “isolated” at the hotel in Mauritius. The couple had been married for just 12 days.

The Mauritius Tourism Minister Nando Bodha visited Mr McAreavey at the hotel. When asked if he had a message for the people of Ireland Mr McAreavey said “I love my wife.”

My condolences to the Harte Family and her husband..they kill her only for the sake of money ...
People on here commenting that they should be hanged are just brainless clowns. Too stupid to work out a basic moral philosophy. If it wrong to kill, then there can be no exceptions
WELL SAID below. The 'wonderful influence' she had on her admirers didn't last a day before the Lynch Mob saddled up! In the fullness of time all our questions will be answered. Did they really do it? In a sealed Hotel complex with keycards that log all use? Lunch at three in the afternoon. In a swimsuit? Left before lunch to get biscuits for tea - would an exclusive five star hotel not have any? ( I pray I will never learn she went back to the room for a favourite Irish brand ...!) Why were these British Subjects, resident in N.I., travelling on 'EIRE' passports? .....So many questions....Poor Girl, husband and family. May they all find Peace. - and those who are truly responsible for this crime, get their JUST deserts.
hey guys what is all this stuff about "garbage" being hung with no trial!!! "It didn't take long for the garbage to say they were mistreated, GOOD." "forget human rights" WHAT!!!!! DID I HEAR YOU CORRECTLY??? what is this world coming to when good people are saying things like this!!???.... hey! of course you feel shock, horror, disbelief, sadness... this is heartbreaking!! totally heartbreaking!!! and i am not downplaying that in the least. i'm with you ... but these three men may be innocent! there is only circumstantial evidence right now. so come on guys do yourself and everyone else a favor; let's grieve with this family instead of giving in to anger and violence. let's let evidence be gathered and the truth unfold in time and pray for healing and restoration for all involved including the killer(s). let's stand with this grieving family and try to rise above this without in any way diminishing how horrible and evil this beautiful woman's murder is. justice has more to do with healing and restoring as much as possible than punishment.
This is one of the saddest cases I have heard !!!It is hard to understand how any human being could do this to another human being !! What a beautiful person she was and God love her family during this nightmare ...I don't know the family but am heartbroken for them !!!
very very sad the men in this world is going crazy those men should be hung no trial no nothing
bronxjames, i agree with you. but it would take a least an hour for the parting gifts I would like to give to these chicken s**t goofs
My condolences to the Harte Family and her husband. It didn't take long for the garbage to say they were mistreated, GOOD. They should have been shot right there. Like the piece of garbage that killed 6 people in Arizona including a 9 year old girl they should all be put in a locked room with their respective familes and left alobe for 5 minutes. That's all the time they would need.
Im with Antoman. Forget so-called human rights. Time to consider the victims of violent crime, not the perpetrators.
What a shame these SOBs are complaining about being roughed up by the police. They should be hanged, With sympathy to Mr McAreavey and the Harte family.
Words don't offer much comfort. You can see how close the grieving family members are. That is what will get them through this sorrow.
this is the saddest news in a long time. She was a shining example of a bright young Irish woman.. so sad.
Heartbreaking.
If their proved guilty ship them to County Tyrone for sentencing.
