A pack of raccoons attacked a couple visiting from Ireland and their two small dogs in San Francisco earlier this week.

It was the second such incident in the Richmond District neighborhood over the past two months, reports SFGate.com.

The couple, Brendan O'Sullivan and his wife who wished to remain anonymous, were walking their daughter’s dogs in the Richmond District when they were reportedly rushed by more than a dozen raccoons. The dogs sustained injuries and the woman had to receive a rabies shot.

"In the group there were at least 12-15 but there were four vicious big racoons that were actually doing the fighting," O'Sullivan said.

His wife had to receive the painful rabies treatment on her leg, and one of the dogs is limping while the other was even more traumatized.

"We thought he was killed... they were actually dragging him away,"O'Sullivan said.

Deb Campbell, a spokesperson for San Francisco Animal Care and Control, said officers are doing precautionary patrols in the area of the attack, near 41st Avenue and Anza Street, and have consulted wildlife experts.

In August, a similar incident was reported when a group of raccoons attacked another couple and their dog in the same neighborhood.
