It has been confirmed that Barack Obama will spend just twenty four hours  in Ireland. He will not speak at Croke Park after security issues were raised.

He will arrive into Dublin Airport at 9.30 on Monday May 23rd aboard Airforce One and will be greeted by a guard of honor and the Prime Minister Enda Kenny

He will immediately go to Aras an Uachtaran, residence of the Irish president Mary McAleese where he will receive a formal reception.

Afterwards he will remain in the  Phoenix Park and meet the Irish government  at Farmleigh, the official Irish government residence which is at the west entrance to the park.

He will then transfer to Moneygall in Offaly by helicopter where he will visit the ancestral roots of his 6th great grandfather Fulmuth Kearney,

Following that he will return to Dublin for what is billed as a ‘public event’

While Croke Park was initially though to be the venue for the event  that is now scrapped because of the massive security operation needed in a short time.

College Green in the heart of Dublin  where President Clinton appeared has not been ruled out .

He will overnight with Dan Rooney, the US Ambassador at his  residence in the Phoenix Park and leave for London around midday the following morning.

It is still being decided whether there will be a further event on the morning of the 24th, most likely a business breakfast,

Efforts are continuing to have the president come a day earlier but are highly unlikely to succeed. If they had he would have played a round of golf in Ireland on the Monday afternoon.
