James Nolan, from Blessington, County Wicklow, was last seen in the town of Bydgoszcz, 80.7 miles outside Poznan on Saturday. Polish police are now searching for the 21-year-old.

Nolan was last seen in the town outside Poznan drinking in a bar with his friends, who were there to support the Irish soccer team in the UEFA Euro 2012 competition.

When he was last seen he was wearing dark-blue jeans and a white t-shirt with a picture of the actor Chuck Norris on the front.

His family is very worried for his welfare, according to the Irish Independent report. The voluntary Irish Fans Embassy in Poznan spent Monday distributing flyers around the old main square, in the hope that some of the thousands of soccer fans might recognize him.

Itaka, Poland’s missing persons agency, has also been drafted in by Ireland’s Department of Foreign Affairs to escalate the search.

Messages are also being circulated on Facebook and Twitter. His photograph was also shown on screens around the city of Poznan, ahead of the Ireland v Italy game on Monday.

Nolan was traveling in Poland with ten friends, staying in campsites. His friends have stayed on in the town of Bydgoszcz to help with the search.

A spokesperson from Ireland’s Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed, "We are providing consular assistance and have been in contact with his family."

They are urging fans in Poland to remain vigilant.
