Phoebe Prince bullies live in fear amid death threats

Teens skip court, judge warns them to stay away from Phoebe family

Three of the nine teenagers accused of driving 15-year-old Irish immigrant Phoebe Prince to commit suicide have been ordered to stay away from her family.

Sean Mulveyhill, 17, Austin Renaud, 18, and Kayla Narey, 17, were all freed today on personal recognizances as long as they left Phoebe's heartborken family alone.

Judge Judd Carheart made the ruling in a brief arraignment which the three teenagers did not attend.

Narey’s lawyer, Michael Jennings, says threats are pouring in against his client over the web.

“She’s having a difficult time,” said Jennings. “She is a young woman, 17 years old and not used to being known around the world.”

Jennings - who is doing his job and his best to defend his client - said no charges were brought last year against the children who bullied MA 11-year-old Carl Walker-Hoover who also hanged himself.

The trio are due back in Hampshire Superior Court on Sept. 15 for a pretrial hearing.

The three are among nine teens accused in the bullying which dates back to Phoebe's arrival at the school in September 09.

Phoebe, who was in her first year at South Hadley High School, hanged herself Jan. 14 after what prosecutors say was relentless bullying by the three teenagers and at least six others at the school.

Mulveyhill, of South Hadley, and Renaud, of Springfield, face charges of statutory rape, while Mulveyhill and Narey, of South Hadley, face charges of violation of civil rights, criminal harassment, and disturbance of a school assembly.

It was a mob scene at the Hampshire court today as media outnumbered everyone else for a first look at the teenagers who are accused of literally bullying Phoebe to death.

Terrence Dunphy, an attorney for Renaud, said he had not seen any evidence in the case yet and had little further comment.

Outside the court, student Eric Lacust told the Boston Globe that he was angry that the three teens skipped court.

“They should be denied bail,” Lacust said .“I think it’s wrong that no one showed up. It shows you can get away with murder, and it’s all right.”

So these little b*****ds live in fear do they? Well, if they came face to face with me then they would know just what fear is and they would know it in a hurry I can assure you about that.
The bullies live in fear?! Serves them right. A dose of their own medicine. I hope they all rot in he##!

It makes me sick to read about another case of bullying where another young person feels that she has to commit suicide. These ignorant parents and students should suffer the same consequences, and that is not a slap on the hand. They all need to be reminded that there are there are consequences for their actions. And, the school administration needs to punished, or even fired for not protecting this young woman. I don't know how the parents, students involved and school administration can look them selves in the mirror and feel good about what they have done and/or supported.
every adult in that school should be fired...the adults who are to protect these students failed grossley.as far as the kids who bullied I hope the punishment fits the crime. How do parents raise children who can be this evil? If they get away with it once no child will ever be safe within that school system.
Those three teens should have had to post high dollar bail. The judge is making a big mistake. Did the D.A. ask for bail other than staying away from the Prince family? I imagine for them it will get uglier before it gets any better. What did they expect? They are the scum of the earth and a young girl is dead because of their actions.
To all who offer apologies to the Irish people (I’m one of them) for what happened to Phoebe and her family, may I say thank you - the thought is appreciated. However, I don’t believe you should be ashamed to be Americans on account of this cruel tragic incident. It was not your doing – it was the doings of young people with evil intent on their minds. The vast majority of Americans do not have evil intent on their minds and I don’t think posters here should feel a need to apologise. May Phoebe’s family obtain appropriate justice, the perpetrators suitably punished and rehabilitated in this stage of their young lives, and Phoebe rest in peace in God’s love and mercy.
Well, I have been following and I feel horrible for the girl. In addition, I have seen such bullying and it is horrible and kids need to be protected from it. Adults, when they know about it, must intercede vigorously. Programs need to be implented in schools (they do exist and they are good) on all grade levels. Procedures for kids to report the behavior whether towards them or others should be in place and published. All that being said, I do have a concern as I have seen law enforcement pursue well published actions like this with a vigor often lacking in discretion. It is easy to paint all with too broad a brush and to go overboard. The law enforcement procedure is very simple they place extra-ordinary charges with severe penalties attached in the hope to get a plea for a lesser charge (even if the person is not guilty) to get the case resolved. I don't feel this position will be popular, but I still think we need to watch out for the possiblity that some kids on the fringe will be punished well beyond what they deserve.
My most humble apologises to the family and Irish people. Even though things like this happen all over the world, it should not happen to a beautiful Irish Lass wanting to learn about america. I hope the American Yobs are feeling just a small bit of how Phoebe must have felt. they should all be placed in the 6X6 cells and forgotten.
This whole thing is an atrocious mess and the victim will never have her day in court, but her victims are free to skip it--As an American and a mother of four children, I am appalled at the illogic thinking behind protecting these young people, who did not care one bit about Phoebe's feelings or mindset. While I do not condone vigilantiism, I do feel that these bullies should be kept in jail until they appear in court, if for no other reason than to show them how Phoebe must have felt--so caged in by their abuse that she'd rather hang herself than deal with it any longer.
I think they're cowards, anyone who has to gang up against one person like they did against Phoebe Prince, proves that they don't have the courage it takes to 'fight your own battles' and face the fear that drives such crazy behavior. I feel sad about what happened to Phoebe, and other children who have also been bullied unmercifully. Pray that the American Legal system will take specific action against the teens charged. This will send a message that this kind of bullying won't be tolerated anymore.
i think that they should go to jail for what they did, no one cares how their feeling now. no one shows pity for them, they re tasting their own medicine and its bitter. i dont care if they werent around when she killed herself, they pushed her. they wrapped the nuse around her neck and pushed her. i feel ashamed to be an american. and i hope that people start realizing how severe bullying is. its not somthing to be taken lightley
WOW, the animals AGREED not to bother the Prince family. Big of them!! Here come their BFF wannabes to do it for them--still have to "Accomplish" the 12 year old sister, eh scum?? Sorry, but I think yesterday showed the fix is in. They don't even have to appear until SEPTEMBER. The delay is longer than the entire time it took for them to "Accomplish" what they did to this woman. They'll be celebs all summer with their little friends (regardless of what an attorney $ay$) and then they'll have worked out some pathetic arrangement that sweeps all of this under the rug held open by the Court and, tragically, the DA. SAD.
I just want to apologise to the Irish people for what these feral creatures did. I'm American and feel ashamed to be, don't worry though we will take care of these evil little cunts!
Well now they know how their victim felt. I could give two s**ts about how any of them feel. They didn't care when they ganged up on that girl.
The client is having a difficult time? I wonder what Phoebe was having then.
Nail their behinds to the wall!!! As an American from MA I apologize to the Irish people for the horrific treatment of this beautiful little girl. Justice WILL be served! RIP Phoebe. May God forgive them for what they have done to you.
