Over 300 people gathered at the Holy Shrine in Knock, County Mayo, today where they were told the Virgin Mary would appear at 3pm.

Joe Coleman, the Dublin-based self proclaimed visionary, predicted that the Virgin Mary would appear at Knock after crosses appeared in the sky.

Coleman left the 300-strong crowd after a number of hours. Clutching his side and saying that he felt ill he said he had received another message from the Virgin Mary.

So far there have been no reports of any apparitions.

Coleman was refused permission to pray in the grotto by officials when he approached. He was forced to await the apparition with the other pilgrims in the grounds outside.

The Catholic Church has dismissed any claims or proclamations that he has made.

This year the pilgrims, at least, came prepared. Those starring the sky in wait were, for the most part, wearing sunglasses to protect their eyes for the sun.

Last year there were at least five cases of retina damage following a similar pilgrimage.

In September and October last year thousands of pilgrims travelled with Coleman to the Knock Shrine where he claims he has received various messages from the Virgin Mary.

In December Coleman was joined, in inclement weather, by 700 pilgrims along with BBC Radio 4, Sky News and Irish broadcasters RTE and TV3 as well as various local news stations.

Coleman has claimed that crosses would appear in the sky above Mayo and that the Virgin Mary would appear today at 3pm. He said that these apparitions would be precursors to the Second Coming of Jesus.

Be careful there will be many who clam they see or hear Jesus or the blessed Mother Mary. Truth will always come out lies will be expose! If it is real time will tell if not RUN!!!
Hey look up. its a plane its a Bird no no its Just another nut cake seeing a flying cross in the sky. maybe its a UFO from Kripton . What the Church Didn't make any money with this BS Story ?? WOW they are slipping,
this guy is a total hack. GOD spoke about " "giving" to His elected few " but He also spoke about how the Holy Spirit would enter those choosen and that the timing would be in accordance to HIS time. Not ours.
What a hustle this guy is running. When is the book due? This is the kind of malarkey that turns people off. It is interesting because it would be nice if we could get a little divine intervention in these confusing, frightening times.
How convenient an illness! Perhaps Mary needs to bring St. Luke with her to cure him!
MAYBE MARY WAS ON A DIFFERENT TIME ZONE! OTHER-WISE ONE CAN FIND HER IN THEIR HEARTS!
Coleman is turning the Blessed Mother into a side show. He should be taken out and horsewhipped.
I feel the devil is at work here...
I am so sorry for this man. He is being treated as was Jeremiah and other prophets in other times. Those who do believe should not loose heart. Nothing good goes un-opposed. Those who want to scoff should be gentle with their words. Didnt Jesus say..." those who are for Me are not against Me"...and this man is bringing sincere people together to pray Our Ladys Beautiful Rosary.
I am so sorry to say people but this man is not the real deal. Not every apparition is real! I Love the Blessed Mother and believe in many apparitions but this man is being tricked by the Devil or his own mind. Pray for him.
"No apparition at Knock as visionary falls ill" Now there is a surprise.
