As part of the documentary “Apparitions”, which recently aired in Ireland, Marion Carroll discussed the day that she was cured of her crippling disease, multiple sclerosis, at the Marian Shrine in Knock.

Though many have reported visitations of the Virgin Mary at Knock over the years Marion’s case it the first miracle. The officials at Knock believed that the authenticity of her case warranted that it be sent to the Vatican to be authenticated. It is currently under review there. Hers is the first miracle from Knock to be sent to the Vatican.

Back in 1989 Marion was literally crippled with pain. She was carried into the Basilica at Knock on a stretcher and brought to the alter where a bishop blessed her.

In the interview she said “I was brought over to the Basilica and it was at the time that I got this beautiful feeling, a magnificent feeling.  It was like a whispering breeze telling me that if the stretcher was opened I could get up and walk.”

After she realized what had happened she said she didn’t know what to do. She said “I didn't say anything in case I looked stupid. When I got back to St. John's-the rest home for the sick at Knock, I asked for the stretcher to be opened and I was able to stand up and I even drank a cup of tea unaided. There was no stiffness and no pain, it was like experiencing every bit of happiness you have ever dreamed of".

Marion now spends her time helping in the Church and speaking to those who feel in need of divine aid. She joked “When you work for the lord you’re given a mop and a bucket. So that’s what I do for him.”

She has written her autobiography about her experience and she speaks about it with those who ask but she also feels that her cure was a personal gift to her. She said “I meet a lot of people who tell me that they had this or that experience with our Lord and I tell them ‘That’s beautiful but that’s a gift to you. It doesn’t mean that you should go out and share it’.”

On September 3, 1989, Marion entered Knock Shrine in a stretcher. She had recently been bought an electric wheelchair. She said that she had stopped her family taking any photographs of her in her weak and ill condition as she believed that she would soon die and wished her children to only remember her as a healthy woman.

More than ten years on and Marion has no symptoms of her illness. Doctors are dumbfounded. They agree that no combination of the drugs or therapies, which she had been subscribed, could have cured her so instantly and completely.

She walked out of Knock that day, cured.

Marion Carroll came to parishes in New York and New Jersey in 2004. She gave long dramatic, detailed descriptions of her life, symptoms and her cure. She then layed her hands on people and prayed over them saying that she had the gift of healing from Medgugorje and as this was taking place large baskets were passed around for donations which people believed were for Knock Shrine, but ended up in her possession for "her ministry" as she called it! We have been told by a doctor in Ireland that her MS was never properly diagnosed before the "cure" took place. Looking back on her appearances in New York and New Jersey, what we saw here was obviously a "well-paid" actress!!! Does Knock Shrine endorse such marketing of a "cure"?? Many authentic cures take place, I have seen them in my work as a surgeon, and most people who receive these cures are humble and eternally grateful. It's not a winning lottery ticket!!!
I believe that Marion was cured of her illness. There are so many instances of miraculous cures that I have no doubt. I myself have seen the miracle of Our Lady of Light at the Holy Spirit Center in Cincinnati, OH. People from as far away as California came every August 31st when Our Blessed Mother appeared to the crowds of thousands. We didn't see her, but there were flashing lights over the crowd, near the ground, in between people. Some of them were triangle shaped (for the Trinity?) There were no cameras flashing, no lights coming from any place. I know it was "other wordly." I must say, lyoness555 seems to be full of hatred and antagonism with all of her name calling. Wizardofoz, don't be such a "doubting Thomas." The great philosopher, Roger Bacon, said, "There is more reality in the things we cannot see than in the things we can see." Do some spiritual reading and you might change your mind.
Wizardofoz you are a stupid idiot. I know someone who has ms and she has had it for 20 years its horrible! it does not at least for my friend ever stop and she only gets worse and worse to the point where now she cant walk or even speak. who do you think you are you moron saying that this woman is a liar and has a head cold? do you know her personally??? are you her doctor??? you stupid racist pig you - the fact that the case is going to the vatican wizardofshit is because they are going to study the case in great detail as they do with all cases of miracles you ignorant slob
What a load of superstitious rubbish! This woman was never professionally diagnosed with anything other than a head cold; she’s as phoney as the yarn she spins. That other Mecca of deceit, Lourdes, the abode of visceral faith, has on display thousands medical aids such as crutches, wheelchairs, walking aids and glasses for the blind, most convenient. So how come in all this collection of ‘No longer required’ je ne sais quoi not one prosthesis, of any verity, is represented? A wooden leg, a metal arm or a glass eye would go a long way in convincing the sceptical while their absence confirms the obvious.
I'm certainly glad she's free from pain, but MS is a disease where one can go into a sudden remission & stay in remission for years.
I saw that 'Apparitions' TV programme. Marion was indeed looking hale and hearty and as humble as pie. She appeared on the Late Late Show a number of years ago and told her story to the Irish nation. Amazing stuff and glad she was so blessed. There were many other miracles at Knock but this is the first one to be sent to Rome for investigation.
Beautiful ending!
Inspiring.
