Irish accent ranked as the sixth sexiest in the world – POLL

Our Irish brogue is beaten to the top spot by the Italian, Spanish, French, Czech and Nigerians

Research carried out by CNN Go has found that the Irish accent is only the sixth sexiest accent in the world. Sadly the Irish brogue comes in behind the Italian, Spanish, French Czech and Nigerian accents.

The survey was backed by the notion that “a foreign language can be the best aphrodisiac” so CNN “traveled the world in search of the 12 hottest accents”.

It is estimated that across the globe there are 7,000 accents so I suppose getting to the top six isn’t bad.

Wisely the CNN survey advised those who come into contact with the Irish accent to “lay off the leprechaun jokes.”

Describing the Irish accent they said it is “Valued slightly more in men than in women, the Irish brogue is a lilting, lyrical articulation that’s charming, if not exotic. Fluid and uplifting, it can swing from vulnerable to threatening over the course of a sentence, restoring your faith in the world again … right before it stabs you with a broken bottle top.”

That description was going fine right until it insinuated that the Irish might be slightly schizophrenic and have an automatic predisposition to turn to violence. They went on to say that the Irish accent “sounds like: A marauding pixie”…That sounds suspiciously like a leprechaun reference to me.

However I’m sure we’re willing to overlook this safe in the knowledge that the Irish brogue still has that power to charm foreigners with a single “lilt”.

Irish accents can be attractive depends very much on the location...the worst accents have got to be NIrish particlarly Belfast...I remeber a hilarious news item about unemployment in Strabane incorporated into a satirical sketch because the accent was so thick and fast it was impenetrable...!Agree about swearing GD particulalry when it's used offensively but breeding comes out in the eye of a cat as they say...!

The addiction to foul language unites Ireland, city and country, young and old, men and women, rich and poor. When I was in Galway a few weeks back I heard a child, couldn't have been more than 3 years old, say to his friend (aged maybe 4): "Will ya leave me alone, ya F**KING Knacker". Ugly to hear from any lips, but utterly disgusting from a baby.

You mean to say that the accent of "Two Wild and Crazy Guys from Czechoslovakia" (Steve Martin and Dan Ackroyd from SNL, for you Gen Xers) beat out the Irish?? I am truly gobsmacked. And I can't figure Nigerian as being sexy after an ocean of email scams emanating from that part of the world.

You might think that someone saying F**K F**k F**K continually would be sexy. But I don't. That's why I would never consider an Irish accent sexy. The Irish interpolate the F**K word into every sentence. That's not sexy, it's ugly and boring and inarticulate.
