Ireland’s gay civil partnership recognized in law

First civil ceremony will take place in April 2011

Ireland will have its first official same sex partnership relationship recognized in April 2011, the Minister for Justice Dermot Ahern has announced.

The new law allowing gay couples a range of rights comes into effect on 1 January 2011, but it will be three months before the first ceremony is enacted.

It will give the civil partners rights over shared homes, maintenance payments and pensions.

Irish Justice Minister Dermot Ahern stated the new law recognized the many different relationships in modern Ireland.

"Gay couples, whose relationships have not previously been given legal recognition by the State, may now formalise their relationships in the eyes of the law and society at large," he said.

"Their relationships will be legally recognised and protected.

"Persons in committed gay relationships who wish to share duties and responsibilities now have the choice to register their partnership and become part of a legal regime that fully protects them in the course of that partnership and, if necessary, on its termination."

After they register as a civil partnership, the couple will be treated in the very same way as spouses under tax and social welfare codes.

Does anyone seriously believe that myth in the 21st century? If they do, i support their right to believe any foolishness they choose, but that does not confer upon them the right to impose their beliefs upon other citizens with the force of criminal law. Two thousand years of Christian history demonstrate the danger of basing law upon the conflicting visions contained in that Biblical mythology. In 2000 years, the followers of the "God of Love" did not impart love or even justice to anyone outside their Christian cult. The failure of Christianity to do that, discredits it as a legal basis for civil society.

If there was anything good in buggery why was it condemed as an abomination with a terrible punishment and given awful consequences like the destruction of Sodom and Gommorah?Christ did not delete the laws of the old testament though many xtians seem to have done so.Any medical doctor could tell you the bum is'nt designed for the penis.Beast on beast.

paricaliswishes...Buggery is an act of love between homosexuals.That's how they physically show their love for each other.I believe in God and i believe if you are going to be judged..GOD will judge you on how you treat others who are doing you no harm.Or how you treat others full stop.If we are made in Gods likeness..Then Gods ultimate command,which encompasses all other commandments (except the first two) is to treat others with love and respect.You are not doing that paricaliswishes.You are not showing love for people who have their own beliefs on right and wrong.You are not God,so you have no right to judge them.You have your own beliefs on what YOU think is right and wrong and you will be judged on that...NOW that i have INFORMED you on a different way of thinking.I want to warn you that i have put your soul in danger of eternal damnation.You cannot choose to ignore my words, because God now knows you have been informed and my way of thinking might be more to Gods liking.So i would have a think about it if i were you. Jesus commanded us to love each other, paricaliswishes. It's a commandment you defy. I'd rather see two gay people celebrate their love than watch you use it as an opportunity to promote hate.

Re Dublinjas statement "Get past God and you're home free." The 20th century saw the killing of 100 million persons by athistic communists. Add to that atheistic nazis who killed over 273,000 handicapped persons prior to the holocaust and their colonial expansions. Add to that atheist Mussolini's murders. Modern atheists have killed more innocents than in all previous wars, including religious wars. Why is this taking to 2011 to show up on educated anti-Christians' radar screens?
