FBI agents who came to Ireland identified soon to be released rapist Larry Murphy as very likely the killer of Irish American student Annie McCarrick and other missing young women.

The FBI were invited in by Irish police and identified that the profile of the serial killer was a clear match with that of Murphy.

Murphy is set for release in two weeks spreading panic and fear in his local town in Wicklow where he is expected to live.

McCarrick, 26,, from Long Island, studying to be a teacher in Dublin went missing in 1993 in the same Wicklow area where later six other  girls disappeared.

Murphy is the prime suspect in all the disappearances. He is serving time for rape after being caught abducting a young woman. He had raped her twice and was trying  to place a plastic bag over  her head when two hunters caught him in the act in the Wicklow Mountains.

After he was jailed the abductions in what had become known as Ireland’s ‘Vanishing Triangle’ have stopped.
Now after 15 years he is due back on the streets and even his own brother believes he may try and kill again.

“There is no reason why my brother won’t do it again.” said Thomas Murphy, the brother of  Larry in an interview with the Irish Star newspaper.

“To me it was the work of an animal” he said referring to the rape. “She wasn’t going to survive. My verdict is yes, he was going to kill her.”

Thomas denies that Larry will be living with him in Baltinglass, a small local town, when he is released as some newspapers have reported.

If Patrick Cooper gets paid per article, then he's pulled a nice little scam on Irish Central, submitting an out of date article. So much for editorial control and reliability of the news on this site.
SHAME ON YOU. Larry Murphy was released in August, 2010. He was hounded & followed from the day he got out & eventually had to leave Ireland. Why would you print an article that is so old? How accurate are your other stories? You really need to research your articles before you use them.
People this story is behind the times, Larry Murphy has been free since August 2010. It is now the 1st of April 2011.
@Glorybee, the reason that the fbi were called in to help was that an american woman was the first to disappear so i think that was why they were involved..he got a 15 year sentence but got released after 10 years for "good behaviour" which is more to do with freeing up prison space possibly..I feel sorry for the people of the community - the disappearances stopped whilst he was in prison and still they have not found a trace of any of the women that disappeared! Just shocking stuff really..
I cannot believe this animal is going to be let run loose. I don't blame people for being afraid. There has to be some loop hole they can find to hold him. I don't quite understand the FBI being there. Is he possibly a suspect over here? I maybe should have read more. I feel sorry for his brother but it seems like he will be let loose on the community without a place to live. Do they get probation over there and will he have to report to some one? Sure is scary to me.
Irishphotograph: I agree. Al Capone may not have been much for morals himself, but he was said to have remarked (paraphrasing): "Give me a blowtorch and a pair of pliers, and I will get any information out of any man in five minutes." Anyone got either of those two instruments handy? Let's just walk this little putz into a room and start extracting teeth until we extract a confession -- and have a weenie-roast, at the same time...
Sure it is not a Pitbull, they normally get the blame.A Perfect bloody Human My My. smarock10@yahoo.com
What this mad did and tried to do is abhorrent and can never in my opinion be forgiven or forgotten despite what my upbringing says. However aside from what the fbi profile he was convicted and sentenced for the crime they had evidance for. Without bodies and other evidence linking him to the other girls the courts and police can do nothing. We may suspect, we may have a profile, hell we may know, but without evidence the police and courts can do nothing. Locking him up may seem the right thing to do based on this profile but if we lock everyone up based on just a profile we may as well throw out the justice system. We can't make exceptions how ever much we wish to hence why justice is blind, and should remain so. If he is seen as a risk, as the profile clearly states he should be and can be monitored with court appointed oversight. If his physiological profile states he will offend again surly he could be held in a secure mental facility?
How many more women will have to die at this man's hands? Remember Ted Bundy???? As soon as he escaped from prison (the second time)he went on a rampage where he bludgeoned to death 2 Chi Omega girls and severely injured 2 others...Went down the street and bludgeoned another girl, then later kidnapped, raped, and killed 12 year old Kimmy Leach. Tell me these serial killers ever get it out of their system. Women are in mortal danger with him on the streets.
If he's a Murphy, he can't be all bad--or all good.
Cut his F ing balls off! ....this government hasnt got what it takes to protect its people. The man should be 'made' to confess and give up the bodies...if he hasnt give anything up after a day of 'treatment' hes innocent.
Larry Murphy should remain in prison for the rest of his life. Why is he being released from prison ? I find it absolutely shocking !!
I feel sorry for the victims, their families, and his family as well. They have all been imprisoned by his actions.
I'd be frightened to be in the same area as Larry Murphy! Too bad they can't keep him in prison longer or come up with some proof that he was involved in the other disappearances (if he really was).
